Last week I posted that I had the following codes in the computer with the MIL on.

P0500 No vehicle speed sensor signal

P1693 fault code set

P0251 Injection pump failure feedback circuit

P0253 injection pump fuel valve

P0234 turbo boost limit exceeded

P1693fault code

I took it to the dealer and they ran a diagnostic check on the truck. They came back and said that everything was fine and the codes were set because of the Pratical Diesel Solutions High Idle Kit that I have installed on the truck. I stated that I have had this on the truck for four years with no problems and have not used the high idle since last winter when it was cold. Has anyone experienced this problem with their trucks? I find it kind of odd that the high idle kit that has not been used for some time to cause this problem.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I started getting P0216 error codes and the CES light on my original VP-44 randomly, but testing revealed I could easily set both those simply by reving the engine up near 3000 rpm and holding it there for a few seconds.

I replaced the VP with an II rebuilt, no more codes - and the word from them is that the later VP-44's used a brass/bronze advance cylinder that became notorious for early wear and failures. Erratic fuel timing advance caused by wear like that might easily cause the codes you are seeing.

Try what I did, rev and hold the engine RPM up near 3000, and see if the codes set repeatedly - if so, a new VP-44 might be in your future...

Gary,

I had the 0216 set about 5000 miles back. Now its gone. Do you think I could be having this (Erratic fuel timing advance). The code disappeared on its own.

Since the weather is getting cold, you may want to check your batteries if you still have the stock ones. I would get occational APPS codes when the Bat Voltage got low if I started and moved my truck alot without driving long enough to re charge the bat. Since your codes seem to be all over the place I would be suspicious of a weak battery first. Easy to check it before spending a lot of money on other things.

The codes WILL disappear after several normal engine cycles - but IF the VP-44 advance is a growing problem, it might return again with increasing frequency as wear increases - just something to be aware of - there seem to be several potential external sources that might trigger a 216 - it's a good idea to isolate which one is the cause if possible.

What are some of the potential external 0216 issues.

I've heard reliable reports as to CPS problems causing false 216's, as well as various cable/plug or corrosion problems, ECM/PCM problems have caused the 216 to be triggered - some of the aftermarket boxes have also caused 216's, jury is out as to whether the boxes actually CAUSE the 216, or just place enough added demand upon the pump to cause weaknesses and future issues to show up...

251,and 253 are internal failures

I was getting the p0253 code when I had a bad ground on my Edge Comp box, since I've fixed the ground it hasn't come back and that's been about 60,000 or more miles.
