That's right. I believe my low boost black smoke problem is due to a faulty MAP sensor. It set the check engine light and a trouble code saying "MAP sensor input voltage below acceptable limit". Since I'm still under engine warranty I thought a new MAP sensor would be covered. NOT! The dealer says it's not one of the parts listed. I find this pretty hard to swallow, especially since they want $110 US for one.

That sounds like total BS to me. I would escalate this to the service manager and/or go to another dealership. If you do get your warranty work done at the 5 dingdong dealership, be sure to

rip them when you get the service survey if they give you a hard time.

If you have to buy the sensor, go buy it from Cummins. I'm sure it

is less expensive.

Don't count on the sensor being cheaper at cummins. When I went to get my new IAT sensor cummins wanted $38 and would have it in a week to 10 days. The Dodge dealer wanted $26 and had it in 5 days.

Cheaper

JR2. were right,it may or maynot be cheaper at one or the other, different area's sometime's Dodge is cheaper, sometime's you can get a better price from Cummin's,an availability is also a problem as well as who can get it to quicker!:p

Did the dealer call STAR to see if it was covered or not?

I would expect this to be covered under the

HD Emissions warrantee which is 80K miles on our 98. 5's

thats what they covered my lift pump under.
