Lithia has always used Delo on all diesel oil changes. I just hasd my oil changed in my new 05 and I noticed they switched to Quarker State :{ .

Should I pay the extra $5 that they now want for Delo or just stay with the house brand, Quaker State? I just figured that Quaker State was as bad as Penzoil as far as quality. When I asked why the change, they said that it was a management thing... They got a better deal. I just don't want to hurt my truck! I can get the oil changed at Wal-Mart and get Delo and have them use a Fleetgard filter if I provide it. They deduct something like $3 if I supply the filter and the oilchange is about $30. The dealer charges $45 now for the Delo change and I cant be sure if Im really getting Delo as you cant see what is going into the truck... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY dont you just change your own oil ??

I wouldnt use QUACK STATE to oil up a bolt.

MOBIL is a far better oil . so is ROTELLA for that matter

I get ALL my fleetguard filters from SCHIEND

THERE CHEAPER THAN autozone or advanced knock off brands and CUMMINS recommeded

VISIT THEM

2 days and I have em' pic up some stanadyne also cheap!!!

$45 for a dealer oil change is still a good price. I'd just pay the $5 extra for the Delo. If you really don't trust them to actually use the Delo, I'd find another place to do business.

I quit changing my oil years ago. Why should I get my hands dirty and have a few gallons of the black stuff to get rid of when I can pay someone else to just do it.

YEAH, when Im older I probly wont want to do it any more either :)

Some places will change a gassers oil for cheaper than you can do it yourself

good luck

drain that QS that scares me

I wouldn't mind so much changing the oil, it's what to do with 3 gallons of drain oil when you are finished. That, and the possibility of spilling a bunch drain oil on the garage floor give me all the incentive I need to pay the dealer $22 for the labor.

I filter it and dump it in the tank. Waste not want not. The last 2 qts. of settled oil I take to the recycler. At 2. 45 per gallon fuel prices I figure I get a refund of ~ $6. 00 for a little labor. It's not much, but it's better than a poke in the eye. :)

We been here before, and my opinion is still the same. Convert that stuff into diesel fuel. Filter it to be sure no crud got introduced in the drain pan. Pour it into the fuel tank. Lubricity is better, smoke is negligible and power is increased.

3 gallons of oil at approximately $2. 00 a gallon for diesel is $6. 00 like the previous post says. Why waste it? Diesel engine crankcase oil is usually very clean even when "dirty".

Used oil in the fuel tank??? I thought that wasnt a good Idea. . How will that effect the Cat Converter? Geeeezzzz, all the years I lived on my ranch and just "oiled" my dirt road! :-laf .

Lets see more guys comments about the used oil in the fuel. Im interested!

I may start changing my own oil again!

In one thread here on the TDR we're talking about 2 micron fuel filters because the fuel we buy is so bad, and on another one we talk about pouring waste oil in the fuel tank. The risk just isn't worth it to me. If it works for you, I'll let you come and pick up my waste oil.

I don't know about any others, but the 2nd Gen 24V trucks don't have a cat converter to stop up. I'm still learly of pouring waste oil down my tank though.

Well, I've been doing it for a year now with no ill effects. I just make sure it is filtered down to 5 microns or less. It is easier to filter it if you premix it with diesel. I usually run 60-40, diesel to oil ratio.

I use Marvel Mystery Oil to keep the injectors clean. Other than that, nothing special.

diesel oil makes for a quick camp fire after riding the trails all day ... ... ... ... ... we call it liquid girl scout :-laf

I would not use drain oil as fuel in a good diesel engine. There are a lot of things in that oil - dissolved solids - that you can not filter out. This stuff could really mess up your injectors.

Pennzoil and Quaker State used to be some of the best oils you could buy, but now they are part of Shell and not even made from Pennsylvania Crude Oil. I try never to buy it now since they moved.

Checker Auto Supply will let you dispose of your used in their collection bin. I wouldn't run used oil in my engine except in an emergency. I paid too much for this engine to risk it on contaminated fuel.

I read somewhere there is some development of diesel engines that will suck up some of the engine oil to burn during normal operation. The owner/operator will have to add oil periodically to make up for the lost oil. The point was to extend oil change intervals by introducing fresh oil occationally and reducing the amount of waste oil. I think Cummins was in on the project.

On longe range boats, ie passagemakers that are crossing oceans, they have a real problem as to used oil disposal. Many blend the used oil with the fuel, having permanently set up transfer pumps just for this. However the ratio is about 5% not the ratios that have been mentioned here. This practice is with similar engines to ours. e. g. Cummins, Cats, Deeres, Detroits etc. None of these has a catalytic converter. The engine mechanicals are the same with heat exchangers, raw water pumps and water-cooled inter-coolers. Of course these engines are running continuously for weeks on end. (Think 3000 miles at 6-8knots, 24 hrs a day)

There is probably an additional filter in the oil transfer system. I didn't pay that much attention as my kind of cruising would never present me with that problem. I use Delvac 1 synthetic in my engine(Perkins T6-354) and change it once a season at about 200 hours, which is the equivalent to 10,000 miles or so.

Just some additional information from a different perspective.
