They could not remember why but trucks with the brake can not be sold also. somthing about broken springs??? They did not know if an engine item or the brake. Please inform me if someone has more info thanks for your time. Hot in seattle

The Mopar Ebrake halt applies only to their dealers for their Jacobs EBrake.

If you intend to install the Ebrake yourself or by someone other than Mopar, you could always consider another Ebrake brand such as PacBrake or BD.

To my knowledge no details have actually been supplied or confirmed regarding the reason for Mopar's halt to sales and installation of the Jacobs. Furthermore there have been no notices, warnings, or advisories to those of us who already have the Jacobs installed on our 3rd Gens. That's Mopar customer service for you.

The Jacobs does include a gasket between the Ebrake and turbo. There does seem to be some speculation about this gasket failing, but again no confirmation that this is the issue in question. As you know there is no gasket on the stock exhaust between the turbo and elbow that the Ebrake replaces.

A check with Dodge headquarters and with Cummins who both confirmed that no exhaust brake is recommended at this time for the 03/4. 5 diesel. I have a Dodge 600 Cummins with 3500 miles and am very unhappy with that information.

Did they give you any indication as to why it is not recommended? I've had mine on for several months, and by the way it sounds, I'm glad I got it when I did :)

The Jacobs unit was removed from sale because of manufacturing problems and I'm suggesting that if you have one that you check it for exhaust leaks around the flange where it mounts to the turbo..... There have been some problems with the heat leaking into the engine compartment doing some damage to the area around the flange. There have been no problems with exhaust valve springs... .

Jacob's and PacBrake have been the industry leaders for many years... . with in house engineering and manufacturing..... I'm sure that Jacob's will solve the problem.....

The do not sell order covers only the Jacob's unit... . PacBrake are still approved for installation on the Cummin's engines from the exhaust brake on the trucks we drive thru the engine brakes built for the larger engines... .

Hope this helps clear up some of the issues.....

Thanks Jim! I know when I installed mine, that gasket Jacobs has to put between the turbo and brake is a pain to keep lined up. Their peel away sticker gasket design could be a little better for installations  I've checked mine several times, and I haven't detected any leaks yet.

Has anyone contacted Jacobs about this issue yet? Since they designed and build the brake, they have the most to loose while it is taken off the market. The only comment on the Jacobs website is the old one about not being compatable with the 48RE. No mention at all about any other problems.

Don't know if this applies or not, but this weekend when I changed my oil, I noticed a small area where the Jacobs brake mates to the turbo had soot on it. I surmised that some exhaust was leaking at that point. I was able to tighten the clamp about 6 to 8 full turns of the nut. The clamp does not cover the entire junction of e-brake and turbo so it could be with temperature changes and the clamp configuration there is some exhaust leak. fwiw

wyosteve... you bring up an excellent point that I've talked about before... The clamp from the turbo to the exhaust brake should be checked in 200 - 300 miles after installation... the cold / hot cycle will allow you to tighten the clamp. The soot is the example of a small leak..... If you haven't checked this since the brake was installed please do so.....

I am taking my 03 in for service next week. Has anyone had any dealer problems where they wanted to remove an existing Jake E Brake ?

WM-300

I haven't had that problem. I have one on my 04 and my 04. 5 They told me when I got mine that they won't put them on automatics now. Thats all I ahve heard.

I went to Sundance Dodge in Boise yesterday to check prices for an exhaust brake for my '96. Service man called for price and was told, "no exhaust brakes are available. " No explanation.

I stopped at a Dodge dealer in Baytown TX yesterday to look at trucks and all they had were automatics. Salesman came out to visit and I told him I wanted a six speed because I also wanted an exh brake. He said the 2005's had the corporate blessing and warranty to put an exh brake on an auto. Said they did one that very week. Said it came with an additional wiring harness for the transmission. I am thinkin he is full of IT!!!! Anyone else heard this story??
