I was at my local Dodge shop recently and noticed that they were selling the Bully Dog chip. I asked the parts guy "doesn't that void the warranty" to which he replied "NO, not at all!!" Yah, right. I am having a hard time believing that one. Anybody else heard or seen this before? I am even more curious if anybody has actually had a dealer installed chip and needed warranty work.

Generally, if you buy something performance oriented from the dealer, it should not, by default, void your warranty. If they do, indeed, find that it killed your motor, VP44, etc, then the product IS at fault, and you should pursue them for the repair. Ala Fram filters.

Get it from them in writing, no matter what!

In DC's latest TSB about BOMBing, they included a line at the end that basically says dealers should not be offering performance mods.

BOMBing TSB

The quote...

Also remember that dealership installation of such modification components or packages at any time, as well as the sale of vehicles modified with such components before delivery, may violate state and/or Federal emission regulations that carry substantial fines.

So it looks like even if the dealer puts on the mod, DC won't stand behind them.

As sort of an overview - keep in mind that the takeover of Chrysler by Diamler-Benz has them bleeding red ink as far as profits are concerned. THAT being the case, they are going to great lengths to cut manufacturing costs - such as demanding that their suppliers (such as Cummins) cut the cost of goods sold by 15% - and the various "deletes" we are seeing in new trucks in such items as underhood blankets, trim pieces, grab handles and such... That being the case, don't expect any serious concessions where warranty work is concerned - they are as likely to be aggressive cutting costs THERE as much as anywhere else.

Makes ya sorta worry about what corners they are cutting in the '03 and beyond trucks, don't it... ;) :p :D
