Truck and tractor pull on July 5th

I'm replacing my furd with a Dodge one-ton. Any dealer recommendations in the Seattle area who won't:

screw me around on trade-in?

make me sit through several hours of good cop/bad cop?

as one of their first questions, ask what color I want?

Thanks!

It may be worth your while to drive over to Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, Idaho. It is about a 350 mile trip (one way). You don't have to play the games like you do anywhere else.

I know they are great for buying a new vehicle from, but they may not give you as much for your trade as you would like. Since they sell their trucks so cheap, it may make up the difference.

They were mentioned in a TDR article a couple of issues back.

It would be a nice vacation, hang out in Coeur d'Alene for a day or two, maybe take a lake cruise :D

Well Bob, Enumclaw Dodge may have good pricing on vehicles however, I do know that they have the worst prices of the three local Dodge dealerships in my semi-immediate area as far as parts pricing goes.

especially if you purchase them from Scott. [relative of owner]

USA Karmart Dodge in Mt Vernon

Give Terry Shannon a shot (he's the Fleet Dealer who I bought through - even though I bought off the lot). If your interested, PM me, and I'll look for the phone number. He spent lots of time with me in previous years just helping me price out rigs, even when he had a fairly good idea I wasnt going to buy from him due to trade issues. When I did finally buy through him this year - I never saw or spoke with anybody but him. His sales mgr did do the trade in valuation (gave me 500 over wholesale, which I expected after doing a lot research). Most dealers these days are only giving wholesale on trades due to the large numbers of used vehicles from people taking advantage of low interest and incentives.

A really nice guy and a Dodge dealer to boot.

CC - back in 1948 I met a very nice guy, we were both 14 years old, in Wrangell, Alaska. His name was Duaine Lane and we have been friends ever since. His mom and dad worked in the fish cannery for the summer. They lived in Everett, Washington. During high school, he started working at a Dodge dealership in Everett washing cars and such and after a vew years he was selling cars. A few years later (maybe 20) he bought the dealership and now I believe he has two or three stores for his dealership. I can't tell you what kind of a deal you may get from Duaine but I can tell you that he is an honest man and will treat you well. Ask for him personally. Regards, Lynn Schwartz.

I bought mine

I also bought where Bob W. did, as it happened we both bought them on the same day. I felt I got a good deal from them. The service reps ARE bomb friendly too. Just be honest with them. BTW when you buy out of state you loose you the lemon law. I took a quote from Dave Smith to the dealer when I bought it. Eric

When I perused the Enumclaw Dodge site and picked out 'my truck', the on-line quotes were a grand OVER MSRP. At furd, I was used to paying $5K under MSRP. Is this just the dealer starting point? Shouldn't I also expect Dodge to drop $5K off (when we're talking a $40K MSRP)?

Depends on the dealer

Some times its give and take...

Dealers that sell at invoice usually only pay you wholesale on your trade (used equivelent to invoice), whereas these places that sell at MSRP, you'll often be able to trade in at a higher value. So what your after is the "difference". If you consider yourself to be a good haggler (unlike myslef!), you should try both. An invoice dealer will flat out give you his numbers, take it or leave it. Then you can go to an MSRP place and haggle away, knowing what you hav ein your back pocket.

How it all ended

I am now the proud owner of an '03 3500 HO Quad! I thought I'd share my experiences for others who are/will be looking:

I talked to four dealers before I bought out of Enumclaw Dodge. (I skipped Idaho because I didn't want to lose lemon law. )

First one was Dodge of Bellevue; they were nice but didn't tell me the whole story. This was early; I talked on and on about Dodge and exhaust brakes. The sales guy NEVER clarified that I could only get the brakes with a manual; I figured THAT out on this forum afterward.

Second one was Dwayne Layne (sp) in Everett. I already let Lynn know that Dwayne's retired and apparently his ethics don't remain. After I left, the guy called and offered me $5K UNDER wholesale for my truck. I laughed and said not to bother to call back if this was his starting spot.

Third one was Bbc Dodge in south Seattle. They referred me to an SLT listed on their web site, which I looked at before visiting. However, when I came in to meet with the guy, he showed me a Laramie ($5k 'nicer' than I wanted). When he started getting ready to do the slimeball sales routine ('let's get you set up. All I need is your DL and vehicle registration'), I left.

Fourth one was Enumclaw. They quoted me a price both on trade-in and purchase before I went there AND THAT's what I 'd paid when I left there - which was $6K less than Dwayne's. I was in and out in a little over an hour. Granted, my trade-in was at wholesale, and I could have received more if I sold it myself, BUT I saved almost $2K in taxes and many hours of hassle.

I'm scheduled to go to Torklift on Thursday and get my flipover ball and controller installed (see trailering forum). Many thanks!

Use the Costco Plan

We just bought a 2500 QC 4x4 from Dogde of Bellevue. Is was pretty hassel free. Especially when we said we wanted to do the Costco plan. This eliminated the good cop bad cop. As far as I can tell we got a good deal on it. However, I did send a coworker worker there and they were all set to pay cash, they were happy with the sales person. But they sent them to the finacial person and he was so obnoxious and did not understand that all they wanted was the truck and were paying cash for it that they walked out very upset never to return. We did not have that problem and we did not pay for any of the extra crap they try and sell you. Also a great web site to visit before visiting the car dearler is www.carbuyingtips.com

Good Luck

I don't know who would be the best to buy from but I have had experience with all the local service departments. Unfortunately most of them stink in the Seattle area (Yes, especially you Monroe Dodge). I've found Bellevue Dodge has a very competent and honest service facility, no B. S. and no arguing. Truck has been ready either on time or before it was promised.
