Brought truck to dealership under warranty and they reset codes P0216, P1693. Stated they were "not active" so no warranty for replacement of VP 44.

Codes P0216, P1693 and P0500 have returned again with check of ignition on/off procedure. Truck runs fine... fuel pressures are catching my attention

just under 8 to 10-11 psi at the VP 44 schrader. Have ordered Vulcan Big Line pusher... maybe this will aid in the cooling of the VP and not set the infrequent P0216, etc that aren't active enough to warrant replacement of my injection pump.

What do you think guys?

Your VP-44 is finished. It can go longer, who knows. ?

Do not install a bigger line or do anything to it that might cause the dealer to void the warantee.

Your mileage is going to drop because the timing advance is not right.

What is the mileage? How much warantee is left?

I agree, go to a different dealer and get the VP replaced under warrenty, before it strands you on the side of the road. Then add the big line/pusher kit.

P0500 No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal

Is your ABS and/or Brake light on?

Ditto... . if it reset the same codes, explain to the dealer that it needs replaced. I went through something like this before, the dealer kept resetting the codes and I pursued them to replace the VP44 after the third time.

You do kinda have to be careful with how you deal with them as most dealer techs dont like it when you know more about your truck than they do... :-{}

Why can't they break around here? I would take care of it for you but I don't think you want to drive this far... ... . :(

Find another dealer, complain of bad MPG, and hard cold start, and intermittent dead pedal, they should check the codes and replace it.....

I was in IN on vacation. Dealer cleared the codes, I got them back, took it back in, they cleared the codes, I got them back, they cleared the codes, I took the mechanic with me with the code reader hooked up. He saw the codes set, he cleared the codes, he saw the codes set a 2nd time, and a 3rd time.

They changed the VP44.

I also had to explain everything I had done to the truck and why and they had to agree it did not interfear with the Vp44 in any way.

I have no steady Check Engine Light. Truck has 45065 miles on it. No ABS lamp or anything indicated except when I check for codes with ignition on/off method. Truck runs fine.

Warranty expires December 2006... 5 years from in-service date or mileage, but I won't be anywhere near mileage.

I guess i need to give them the mileage getting worse, sometimes dead pedal, loss of power while pulling.

Tech reset the codes Friday 11 Nov they returned Sunday 13 or Monday 14 Nov.

Good idea to hold of on any installs at this point hey guys??

Mine was also an 02 with 47,000 when I got the 216 code. I had no engine light. Had lots of dead pedal. I got my 44 replaced.

hard starts and flat spots in the fuel pedal they cant clear those faults.

Be prepared for intank pump replacement. My understanding is they will have to do it before Dodge will let them replace VP44 under warranty.

What does the ABS/Brake light being on mean???

Most often, it means that a speed sensor has failed or at least needs to be cleaned. Typically, this is the rear wheel speed sensor located on top of the differential. Mine failed on the drivers side front, and actually was the wire harness pigtail not the sensor itself. I have read about a few cases where there was a wiring problem in the drivers side wheel well, and a few where the problem was in line between the engine compartment and the rear speed sensor. The wire problems seem to be a real bear to track down.

Hope this helps,

Bill

That is everything I did not want to hear Jeepit... I definitely do not want the in-tank conversion.

Dropped it off this evening... told them I had the dead pedal and loss of power a couple of times since their tech reset the codes (that have now reappeared 0216,1693,0500)... I guess I'll hear the news tomorrow.

As I said, I ordered the Vulcan pusher set-up to relocate the stock Carter(new one under my seat) to the frame rail... holding off on the install for now...

I am definitely going to try to avoid the in-tank conversion if they want to head that way... my lift pump tells me it it still putting out good psi (hopefully flow also)

Is anybody running a stock Carter pusher back near the tank with the new in-tank modification done by DC?? From what I have read here the pressures are low with the in-tank set-up... coupled with a stock Carter, Holley, Mallory, etc. back near the tank with correct psi (14-18 or so) and big lines, no banjos... how do you guys think that would be with the in-tank conversion if they forced it on me??

Who knows... maybe they'll tell me the codes are still not active so I will have to continue taking it back or to another dealership... still no check engine light...

At any rate you guys are the bomb... great site for us Cummins owners heh??!

Replacing the lift pump is not required if it passes the test, before replacing the injection pump ;) Sounds like your dealer is tired of being underpaid by warranty.

Vp44

I just had my VP44 replaced on Monday, I has the infamous P0216/1693 code.

I told the service rep that it was hard starting at times and had dead pedal at

times. I also have a FASS on my truck. My appointment was at 7:30AM, took a dealer shuttle ride home (20mi. ), got home and had a message on the

answering machine telling me that I needed a new VP44 and that it was covered under the Cummins diesel warranty (N/C). The best part was I could pick it up at 1:30 PM!! Which I did, the job was well done they hooked the FASS lines and Wetach fuel gauge sender just as they were when I took it in!

Nothing out of pocket except my time. I have to plug them for a job well done

Christhoper's Dodge World in Lakewood Colorado.
