Debris in my intake

Took the intake off of my truck to install the block heater cord and when I got down to the turbo, I see some soot on the silencer. Am I right in thinking this shouldn't be there? This truck has never been modded in anyway. Truck as described in my sig.

Normal as long as it is not excessive. The soot is coming back through the intake from the EGR when the boost drops off suddenly. That is why the TSB's direct the technicians to look all the way back to the air filter if the EGR is stuck open and it has sooted up the system excessively. The little bit you have there is completely normal.
