In my distracted pleasure on taking ownership of my truck, I neglected to tell the dealership that I didn't want any of their emblems or decals stuck on the truck. Needless to say, they stuck one of their decals on the tailgate. I'd like to remove it, if possible. I'm planning on putting on one of those nifty new Cummins Turbo Diesel emblems in that spot. Has anyone had any success in removing these? I was wondering if moderate heat from a hair drier and some gentle peeling might do the trick. At any rate, if there's any risk at all of me screwing up the finish, I'll just leave it alone. Thanks!

I have never had a problem with the hair dryer technique!!

Congrats on the new truck. BTW I won't allow them on my vehicles either until the dealer starts paying me to advertise for them.

I parked my truck with the tailgate toward the sun on a warm day recently. Comes right off after a few hours, so the hair dryer will work too. Cummins logo for that spot will be here Friday with my downturn exhaust tip... Oo.

Just get it off of there before UV fade makes it a permanant shadow...

Boonieman,

You are on the right track. Heat helps, then use your thumb nail to lift a corner and slowly peel that sucker off. If any goo remains I use a 3m solvent for wax and grease. It works on adheasive too. Alcohol would probably work.

I used a heat gun to remove the chrome pieces. Then the gummy residue that was left behind came off fairly easy with the use of a tool I picked up at an automotive paint supplier. This thing was like an eraser pad that you would normally put into a special air tool and it basically burns off the rubber adhesive without damaging the paint. I didn't want to buy the tool so I just bought the bit pad and put it in a larger drill motor. It went quite a bit faster then using your fingers.

Over the spot above the Dodge Heavy Duty emblem where I scratched the paint on accident removing the stupid dealer sticker... :(

I am planning to put the emblem to the left of the "Heavy Duty". I don't have the emblem yet, along with my oil filters (on order from Geno's) but I thought I'd experiment to see where it looks the best. I guess they are held on by the double-side tape??

Thanks for all the advice. I removed the dealer decal today, used a little alcohol to remove the residue, then installed the Cummins emblem I got from Geno's. It worked out really nice and looks good. I put the emblem to the left side of the "Heavy Duty" on the tailgate, just underneath it and lined up with the Dodge and Heavy Duty emblems. Turned out real nice. Again, thanks for the tips!

I must said my sale-man ask me if he could put a sticker on my truck. Of course i said "NO" but i did appreciate him for asking. I told him i would leave his license plate frame on for two weeks after that they have to pay me for advertising:D
