Can anyone (perhaps someone with an owner's manual) explain the meaning of the several letters/numbers in the VIN?

Below are two VINs - one from my truck now(May 8) halfway (BonJct, Mo. )to destination at Dishman Motors in Spokane, Wa. ,... and one due to ship+/- May 15.

My VIN: 3D3MX48A17G812406

Dawn's VIN: 3D3MX48A97G831446

The numbers are identical up to the "A".

What can be ascertained from these numbers, re. build order, etc. ?

Thanks! :)

For anyone with similar questions, a search found these 3 links.

The first is from a TDR thread,... and gives useful leads. A full listing of the code meanings is not given in the post. Apparently they are found in the service manual.

Not sure if this will help or not but it was the most current data I could find and it's not very up to date. It says it goes thru 2002 model year but looks like some of the data is still accurate but it obviously doesn't have the Mega Cab or 6. 7 engine listed.

Thanks TK,

I had seen that site (Geno's) during my search.

I consider the 1st of the links I gave(post #2) more up-to-date,. not only because it is one year newer ('03, vs. '02), but because it shows the manufacturer code(2nd number/letter in VIN) to be "D" for Dodge, which is consistent with my VIN, rather than a "B" as shown on Geno's site.

I believe there were one or more other inconsistencies, but can't recall at the moment.

Sounds like a current service manual would be the best source for a full breaksown of the codes.

Maybe some TDR member has one?

I can't seem to get an answer from Geno's on when the Dodge Factory Service Manual for the 2007's will be available or I would already have one and looked it up. Might have to get the manual from someone else.
