It'll cost me around $3000 to put a new Mopar 47rh transmission in. I also need bigger injectors to get the hp up. I could sell my truck for about $8000 and get a 98 with quad cab and leather for about $19,000. Seems like it would cost me about $8000 more to end up with the 98 instead of get my 89 the way I want it. That sounds like better use of my money. What do you think?

12 valves only, please. #ad
You can't even consider going to the overvalved side with their sea of electrons and wimpy injection pump. It wouldn't last long enough for you to transfer all your goodies to the new truck. #ad

I hope I got things stirred up again. It's been too boring around here #ad

Doesn't sound like either of you are trying to talk me out of moving to a second gen truck!!!

I agree with everyone else if it's a 12V go for it. The '89s were not the best first gen truck. You've gone about as far as you can go with yours. I also agree about the auto transmission vs the 5spd. If it were me I would either convert to a manual transmission or go with the '98 - probably go with the '98.
Happy Trails

If it's a 12valve go for it. My dream truck is a 98 12v 5 speed 3. 54 gears, short bed quadcab 4x4, driftwood in color. (if you've seen this truck for sale please contact me ASAP). I do not think you would like the 24 valve. We bought one and it won't hold a candle to the 89. 24 Valve trucks have NO lowend torque. I know the first gen trucks aren't the hottest thing on the road, but I expected when we bought our 99 that in 11 years they would have surely improved the engines some... NOT. Stay with the 12 valvers, nothing is comparable to them for raw torque. Now the 24 valves will turn the rpm's and you'l need them on the hills, no torque rise. If we hit a hill doing 75 in ours all you can do is hope that it is a short one, they fall off bad on a hill. My opinion only.
