Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) declawing my kitty

My 98 has what seems to be a cat converter, and reason I shouldnt declaw the kitty?

If it's a 12V then it has a cat (94-98). I removed mine when I put in a 4" exhaust as it was a PIA to attempt to cut and weld it in. No problems at all. It actually helps as the cats get plugged. I've heard that the exhaust temp is too low for the cat to be effective anyway.

When I first straight piped mine I pulled the cat off and gutted it then stuck in back on, you will need a BFH (BIG FREAKIN HAMMER) a long steel rod with a sharp point on one end and someway to hold the the cat steady as you wack the rod with the BFH or a long masonry drill bit.

My kitty is on my truck, but it is lots lighter than stock... . The weight reduction dropped my EGTs substantially at WOT, and it even seems to cruise cooler, but that may be due to lower ambient temps with winter's arrival. I do have a little bit of rattle from the exhaust, but I think that when I made a new hanger/clap assemble, I might have welded it in the correct position. You will be able to hear the turbo through the exhaust after your done. It's a real nice sound.

Local muffler shop charged me $50. 00 to remove mine and install replacement pipe

You were lucky Deezul, if a shop ever gets caught removing a cat they can pretty much call it quits.

Deezul 1, have you had any problem with getting your annual State Inspection?

If you gut the cat and reinstall it , then all looks good.

4" exhaust not needed till bombs installed.

The shop told me that they can pull the CAT on diesels but not cars. The 24 valvers dont have a CAT. I have never had a problem with inspections on the CAT or muffler. There is no smog inspection in this county and that may be why they dont care
