Decoding a VIN

Two questions:

How do you tell if a truck has an Aisin or a 68RFE by looking at a VIN,
And the same for a C&C vs a pickup.

On the Aisin vs 68 if I can find a shot of the trucks engine compartment i can tell by the dipstick location. I have found that salesmen are largely clueless and once they get ahold of you they want to ask a million questions. And once you tell them your not interested they want to show more trucks that they don't have the answers to questions I'm asking! Once I find the truck I'm looking for I'll seek them out but until then I'd rather skirt around them.

My truck is an '04. On mind, if I open the glove box, there is a sticker that shows the transmission, third member ratio and size.
Not sure about any other years.
