Howdy, has anyone experienced a decreasing idle on the 12 valve engines? I have a 96 with 126k, auto trans and the idle is slowly dropping. It is a real pain when backing up my horse trailer while turning, the truck just stops, although it fires right back up. I had the 970 recall done a while ago and adjusted the idle to specs. This problem seems to be worse the hotter it gets (especially here in vegas). I have a friend with a 97 12valve suffering from the same problem (80k).

any ideas would be appreciated.

Common problem. Just adjust it up where it should be, at least 700 with AC on in gear. Mine is sat at 750. I have to do mine every so often. However, it's seems to be longer between adjustments the more miles I put on it. 222K so far.

Idle problem

I adjusted the idle not too long ago, however I will give it another whirl, THANKS!: :p I will let you know of the results.

Low fuel psi, restriction in the fuel system (ie dirty fuel filter, etc), , leaky (air or fuel) fuel lines, worn throttle linkage (links & ball studs), stretched throttle cable etc. and all of the other things mentioned could be factors.

Good luck.
