Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Deep water no charge

Early last evening was going through Rochester Mn. and went through a deep water pool and lost my alternator charge. Drove 110 miles that way and no problems. This morning started the truck and it was showing full voltage. Did the high water short out the voltage meter sensor? There's no way I could run for two hours with lights on and no alternator. They've gotton over 10'' of rain since last night, what a mess. DW
