On the way to work yesterday morning and hit a deer head on.#@$%! It was 4:30am I was going around 35mph looked down the road no deer a split second there it was like it just popped up out of the road. #@$%! No one behind me so I laid on the brakes and slowed down to around 25 mph and was on the way to stopping and I thought I was going to luck out and stop just shy of hitting the deer but then I herd THUD, BANG, CLUCK crap I hit it. #@$%!

All in all I really did luck out because all that got messed up was the bumper,A/C condenser, and that dang plastic intercooler. No grill, headlights, fenders, or hood damage. I took it to the body shop yesterday and they said I should have it back Friday afternoon. I was so mad I could not even muster a swear word at the time. :{#@$%!

That sucks!!! You need a buck-stops-here bumper and all you would of heard was SPLAT!! :D

Dose anybody have pics of a 3gen with a buck stop bumper, or something close or similar to it?

DAMN those are some awesome pics. How much do those Buck Stop bumpers run?

I think I will be saving up for one. I do like the looks of those on the 3 g trucks.

If my mind remembers correctly, front and rear Buckstops with shipping just under $2K

this was with a TDR Group Purchase back in 2004

What happened to the deer?

If it didn't run off , you could've taken other non-impacted side , meat should be good .

Buddy of mine works for the county doin' road kill patrol , you'd be suprised how much meat he has in the freezer.

Nothing like road kill , as long as you don't drive as nice truck.

Buy an old 1970's Buick Lesabre , way tougher than most new trucks.

HOLY CR@#!! If that gold truck was mine, I would have "Deer Slayer" painted on the tailgate!!!

On a side note, anybody tell me what tires those are on the gold truck?

Truckie,

Ordered a RANCH HAND Legend series, from Ranchhand.com, under the legend series, cost is ~$1300 locally, and the wait is 4-8 weeks, made in Texas, 4" Schedule 40 pipe base with I think 3/16" Diamond Plate buildup around it, guy at Ranchhand says a deer at 70mph is no problem!!!!!!!!!!! Which is good for me up here in Wisconsin as frequently see 6-30 deer every morning on way into work, and have already killed 3 with my old truck. Just some more info for you. Approx. weight is 350# on the legend series.

You're gonna love it! I've got one on mine and get lots of compliments. The best part is the cars that make it a point to get out of the way. :-laf

Saving my pennies for the matching rear bumper.

Awesome bumper but very heavy at 350lbs . The front end is heavy enough as it is with the Cummins sittin' over it. I don't doubt the manufacturers 70 mph claim one bit though. Wish it was a little bit lighter.

Technically, you hit a deer, not a deer hitting you.

Me on the other had, I was _hit by a deer_. Driving northing on I-75, getting near the UP on my way home to Minneapolis and at ~80mph crusie I heard a "thump". look in my mirrors and I see this deer flying over head, like 30 feet in the air!!!! the truck didn't swivvel at all. so I pull over, as I pull over I see this 1978 Camaro pull over as well

I look at the damage, dead nutz over the left rear tire is a big 12" long dent with zero scratch. Just to the right of the dent was a 8" long scratch to the primer.

Quote from the driver in the camaro "I wish them there deer were that stupid durning hurntin' season!"

The stupid dear ran into the side of my truck at 80mph. Just think if I was doing 79mph, that could of been my door, or 81mph, I would of just missed the thing... . kinda scarry ya know?

It is lighter. The Ranch Hand dealer showed me the spec sheet while mine was being installed. It weighs 250 lbs. The original tinfoil bumper assy weighs maybe 80 lbs.

It has not affected my truck's ride, handling or tire wear. I can stand on the receiver tube and my 250 lbs only makes the front end drop about 1/2".

Bob,

The 250# is not the Legend series, it is the Summit which is lighter, and again cheaper.
