2018 Ram 5500

I have a 2017 3500 Tradesman and I on my second DEF injector/tank replacement in 81,000 mi and both times the message came up service DEF system see dealer and happened within 2 miles from each other 2 years apart I always use Peak blue DEF, anyone else having these issues

You may want to pull the DEF injector yearly to remove the crystallization that can affect things. That way, the bolts won't seize up and not want to come out as long as you use anti-seize when replacing them back in. X2 with @Ozymandias on software and DEF! No need to pay for the brand name. Just use fresh DEF as the standard is the same across all brands. I've been running Super Tech and Travelers with no issues. Also double check it before it goes in the tank with a refractonmeter.

you can clean the DEF injector is water... if that is the problem.. sometimes the injector gets a lump of white coal formed on it..

other than that unless you read the codes you really don't know what approach to take.

You could clean it and then run a lower %age of DEF to try and dilute any remaining crystals out. I believe you want get a DEF code until ~22% DEF so I’d try diluting it with distilled/deionized water down to 24-25%.

I ran into a similar issue this summer while pulling my fifthwheel, a message and chime and message said servive def system see dealer. There was no code set and the message went away after several key cycles and i never had anymore issues, but when i got home, i started checking my back issues of TDR magazines and there are a number of articles related to this system and Genos has s great price on a new os replacement def injector

I recommend cleaning the DEF injector with a Bissel Steamshot or comparable steam cleaner with distilled water. Takes but a few minutes to get underneath and unbolt it and hit it up.
