Hauled a load of hay last weekend (~16K#) about 250 miles. Got low on DEF as I neared home. CEL came on and message said 5mph in 200 miles-see dealer. Only had 50 miles left and it was late so I went home and added DEF the next morning. See dealer message went away and CEL cleared a couple days later. Drove about 600 miles during the week with no issues. Left home this morning to haul a horse from SD to CO (400 miles each way) Got half way to CO and CEL reappeared and 5mph message reappeared. Dropped off horse with 50 miles left and decided to see what would happen as there was no chance of finding a dealer on Sunday. When mileage countdown got to 0 the message changed and said 5mph would start at next restart, long idle or fuel stop. Having 350 miles to go with my wife and 4 kids in the truck, we stopped and put fuel in aux. tank leaving truck running and in neutral and continued home. Made it all the way with no issues. Just for fun I turned it off after unhooking trailer and now I can only go 5mph. Time to see dealer tomorrow. Question: Any idea what could be wrong, plenty of DEF in tank and 2) are these issues covered under warranty? 2013 with 79K miles. Thanks

Driving too low will set a p203f once that trips and you drive too much further a p207f will show up.Many code definitions are a bit misleading.Your dealer should end up testing the def system, replacing the scr cat, flashing the pcm,and removing the ammonia sensor and module. This will require an emission label change as well

So do all us 2013 owners have this to look forward too? It is a problem with certain trucks? Does the SCR fail and then the sensor is part of the collateral damage? Looks like he was not actually low on DEF. System just thought so.

Mine set a p207f, it was full when that happened then miraculously healed itself other then cel staying on. Had it checked out at the dealer ,and supposedly nothing is wrong. Go figure. Now just waiting for the next episode..

On my 2016 Ram I have a little over 3/4 of a tank DEF, From what I am reading it sounds like if I get down to 1/4 of a tank I should add DEF? I'm used to driving a Diesel Engine but the trucks I drove before I retired did not require DEF, so am I better off by adding at a 1/2 tank ? I don't have 4k on the truck yet due to having had some health issues in the past 6 months. I am planning on going on a trip this week I guess I will find a Truck Stop that has DEF Pumps, on the way to where we are going and just top the DEF Tank off. Or would I be better off just buying a gallon of the DEF Fluid at the parts store and just add the gallon? How often do you folks recommend to add DEF?

I am sort of leery about taking the truck. Maybe I should take the Jeep Grand Cherokee on this trip. Maybe put a few miles on it. It only has 25 miles on it. Bought it for SWMbO as a retirement present. With it sitting next to my Ram it looks like the Laramie gave birth. It's called Velvet red my Laramie is Delmonico Red. In the photo that is my 2500 Ram Laramie behind the Grand Cherokee.

I run my until I get the low DEF indicator. This allows me to put in 5 gallons, and keep track of my milage. If i don't refill it before the 5 MPH warning, i get a CEL. When I fill it after the CEL has lit, it takes a couple of engine cycles to disappear.
