Ford Wastegate Question

With so much terminology out there, I am not sure if people are talking about the same things.

Please calrify the following:

1) What is BOMBing?

2) What is the difference between the transfer pump, lift pump and the injector pump?

3) Is the VP44 a lift pump or an injector pump?

4) What is the DD TT Box or the DD TTPM box?

5) PE Comp, EZ Edge, Comp EZ, Comp Edge, Edge Comp... are these all names of contol modules? And what in the heck do they do?

6) If I leave my truck alone, will it last forever?

OK Riley, I will catch a few of these for you, until my fingers get tired anyway:D

1 Bombing is modifying things, Better Off Modified Baby is where it is said to have started. Anything that makes something better can be called bombing it.

2 Transfer pump and lift pump are one in the same, it supplies fuel to the injection pump. The injection pump puts the high pressure shot of fuel into the injector in the right amount at the right time.

3 The VP44 is the injection pump used on the 24V engine.

4 The DD TT and the DDTTPM are the same thing, it is the Diesel Dynamics True Torque Power Module. It is an Edge EZ with some of the parameters changed to the DD specs. Check out www.dieseldynamics.com for more info.

5 The items you listed are all fueling boxes. The EZ is like the DD TTPM, with Edge parameters in it. It is considered a mild box, light fueling and timing adjustments. Edge is the company that makes them by the way. The Comp is a heavy fueling box with the functions of the EZ in it also. Look at the website for the boxes. www.edgeproductsinc.com

6 No, probably not :D but it should give you good service for a long time. Whew! lots of typing for one post. Hope this helps.

EDIT, fixed spelling errors and added web addresses.

Welcome aboard Riley.

Do a search on acronyms, it will help out alot

BOMB... ... ... ..... Better Of Modified Baby!

VP44 is an injector pump

your number 5... ... ... ... ... ... all the items you listed are acutally only two items A) Edge EZ, mild performance box, very stealth B) Edge COMP, major fueling box

I believe the DD TT and the DDTTPM are the same boxes as Edge makes, just re-labeled.

Simply stated, Lift pump gets the fuel to the injector pump (low pressure), injector pump increases fueld pressures to the injectors (high pressure).

Nothing lasts forever, take good care of it and it will last a good long time!

HTH (Hope This Helps)

1. Better Off Modified Baby

2. Lift pump and transfer pump are one in the same,- basically just a fuel pump to feed the injection pump. VP44 Injection pump is a high pressure fuel distrubutor style pump, distributes fuel thru indivdual lines to each cyliner's injector, here's a good explanation: http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/ISB/Vp44.htm

3. See #2

4. DD TT= Diesel Dynamics True Torque: Rebadged Edge EZ with different mapping in the software

see this link for explanation:

http://www.dieseldynamics.com/ttpm.htm

DD UPM of UFM= Diesel Dynamics Ultimate Fueling/Power Module: Rebadged Edge Comp with different mapping

see link below:

http://www.dieseldynamics.com/ultimate.htm

5. These "black boxes" optimize fueling and timing

6. No... . but with regular maintenance and some TLC it will.

Befor you buy anything... get a pyrometer and a boost gauge to monitor the investment under the hood of your Ram.

If I leave my truck alone, will it last forever?

(Sounds like your goals are similar to mine. )

Some modifications should be considered exactly BECAUSE they help your truck last. My list includes:

1) EGT gauge - monitor turbo cooldown. Usually part of an EGT/Boost combination gauge. A "turbo diesel lifesafer" or other shutdown timer would be an alternative; I prefer just watching the gauge and turning the engine off myself.

2) Fuel pressure gauge - protect VP44 from failing lift pump or clogged filter - helps catch problems early before damage to the more expensive VP44

3) Bypass oil filter. Studies show many wear-inducing particles go right through the standard full-flow filter. Bypass filters reduce wear.

4) Exhaust brake. This one is more of a stretch; it helps the service brakes last, and if you have to idle then having an exhaust brake engaged is the safest way to do it. Second best is a high idler; these are much less expensive but don't have the other benefits you would get with an exhaust brake.

With each mod, I've had minor headaches, such as loose wires to be traced, or installation taking longer than expected, but in the long run these mods are worth the effort. This is especially true if you intend to keep the truck for a long time.
