My defrost quit working and I noticed the lower part of my HVAC box is cracked. It's looking like I'm going to have to replace my blend doors, HVAC box and I'll probably replace everything else while I'm in there. I'm on the fence on if I should do it or bite the bullet and get it done. I've checked on You Tube and it seems like quite the task. Has anyone out there done it them selfs and had success??

My Dash is also cracked and I would love to replace that also. Its looking like a couple thousand bucks even if I do it my self!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I just fixed this same issue last month. I even replaced the lower half of the HVAC box. If you're mechanically inclined, you can do the job.

Suggestions: Replace both heater and evaporator cores while you are in there - don't forget the PAG oil that goes in the new evaporator core; use doors from Blend Door USA; when you have the A/C evacuated, also have them disconnect and plug both A/C lines that attach to the evaporator core through the firewall; replace foam seals with 1/2" thick weatherstripping;

I did not have to replace my dash.

Great advice, thanks!

I'm definitely going to replace both the heater core and evaporator core but I've haven't heard of the PAG Oil that I need to add. I'll do some home work on that. Did you also replace all your blend door motors?

Did you drop your steering column and lower your dash in one big piece? It seems like I've seen a couple different ways to go about it.

I did not replace any of the blend door motors other than the one that came with the lower half of the HVAC housing. I have no heard of them failing.

Yes, I did drop the steering column and move the dash in one piece.

Flopster843 on youtube has a few videos that are very good for this job.
