On my way home tonight I was driving in fourth gear and went to accelerate up a hill and all at once had no power. My truck seems to be defueling way early. Normally it would rev to 2900-3000 in every gear. now I have 2900 in 2nd, about 2700 in 3rd, and in 4th it will go to 2500 and then will defuel until I'm around 2100 rpms. Its hard to explain but It definately feels like it is defueling. This is my only mode of transportation right now and I was hoping to take it to Illinois this wednesday. If anyone has any ideas please help.

Thanks

Will

I hope you are right. I am going to change the fuel filter and clean the screen tomorrow morning so I'll see if that helps. Will it hurt for my to drive it about 12 miles home tonight?

thanks for the reply.

Well I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the screen and that fixed it at first, but it is slowly going back to the same thing . I guess I got a bad tank of fuel. I just don't know why it ran fine on the first half of the tank. So how hard is it to drain the tank? Can it be done without removing it?

thanks

Wmonroe:

I have had my tank off before on my 96 CTD. I syphoned as much out as I could and had to drop it to get the rest out because of the baffles. It's kind of a pain, but not impossible. I had to drop mine because the tank was filled with(ahem)gas. In your circumstance, you could probably just syphon as much out as much as you can and top up with fresh fuel. There was probably 5 gallons left down in the baffles and is impossible to get it all out by syphoning. Good luck!

Check that your fuel solenoid is not coming apart internally and

not allowing full fuel. Wire it up in the run position to test. Have run into many of these with low power complaints.

I just put a new fuel selenoid relay on recently and the fuel selenoid "looked" good but I will secure it in the run position and give that a try.

dlefebvre-when you removed your tank was there a filter in the tank that could plug up?

thanks for the replies. I'll give these ideas a try when I get back in town on Monday.

Will

On the sending unit in the tank there is a screen type filter. The screen is the same type of material, only larger than your pre filter screen.

Hope this helps
