I just traded trucks & I am going to put an exhaust brake on. I talked to Pac-Brake & they told me on the brake that hooks up thru the ECM there was about a 3 second delay in the engagement of the brake. Is any one using this set-up? Does the Cummins brake also have this delay also? If they both delay, I think I'll go with the old style Pac-Brake with the accelerator switch. Thanks for your advice

I haven't added an exhaust brake yet, but have read a lot of the posts about it. People with the "delay" and a manual transmission say they like it because it gives you time to shift without engaging, but doesn't wait "too long" when you need the braking. Plus it's super easy to hook up.

After reading all the posts, I'm going with a BD brake which also has the delay. Posts indicate it's better built than the Pac, costs less than the Jacobs, and provides better braking at lower RPM. Plus it's tapped for a thermocouple to monitor turbo temp.

Observation: some delay is good -- you don't want the e-brake engaging until the turbo has a chance to spool down (or you get the turbo trying to spin backwards ---- VERY bad thing). Mine happens to be a Cummins/Jacobs E-Brake and it has a 2 second delay which is perfect for me anyways.

I have the Jacobs E-brake and the delay that is has is not something that is built into the brake unit itself, it is a function of the engine ECM. The computer looks at the TPS and when it sees it in the ideal position for more that about 1. 5 seconds it will switch on pin 20 (if I remember correctly) in the ECM connector which is where the E-brake is connected.

Just trying to clearify things here.
