Just bought a 2012, have 1,000 miles on her what are the options to get better fuel milage? Its a Mega Cab and I love everthing about it just want to get better milage. I want to keep it stock it has to last me a long time.

Good luck finding any delete options as the fed's went after H&S for selling the delete piping and the programmer units to turn of the DPF and EGR. The only thing I have seen is Liquid Mpg that you pour in your tank. That stuff is not cheap. You might be able to do something homemade yourself but "they" are watching what we say.

those two thoughts are contrary to each other...

Is it still in the factory warranty? Why would you want to throw that away with the complexity of these 4th generation trucks??

I've bombed previous trucks, but those were simpler times. My current one is stock and staying that way. Heck, I even bought the extended warranty for this one, and I've never done that before.

Ram has gone all-out to improve mpg for 2013. The DEF approach may help up to 10%, front axle disconnect, available 3. 42 ratio, etc. are some of their tricks. I personally prefer 4. 10 because the double overdrive automatics are still a milder top gear than 3. 73 with the single overdrive manual trans. Overall, now that DEF is readily available and prices aren't such a rip off, I like that approach much better than adding diesel fuel via the injectors to clean the exhaust.

The money you will waste on Deletes is just that Wasted Money . drive the truck like a truck and don't try and make it a Drag car and thing's will be Golden . you will not see a major increse in fuel economy . yes there are claim's of 3or more mpg increses but at what cost something silly goes wrong with truck and it's deleted and the dealer will blame the problem on that and not what really caused the problem . I have had 2 6. 7 truck's and not 1 issue with the motor that wasn't self caused both truck's ran great pulled like a Mule and stopped fine . Enjoy your new truck as you get more Miles on motor it will get better My best stock on long run's is 17 so you should be fine . Good Luck and Enjoy the truck they sure are Nice .

Using the Ram as a commuter vehicle and other light-load situations that produce soot will result in more regenerations, costing fuel mileage. Not only would it take a long time to pay for a tuner and delete package (if you can still find them), if you get stopped even once in a roadside check, you will wish you had never tampered with emissions equipment. For at least a decade and a half, some people have reveled in smoke shows and now the EPA has clamped down. Also realize that many buyers of emissions delete stuff exaggerate the mileage benefits they actually get, and also there is a big tendency to "remember" higher mpg from older Rams than they actually got. For example, I got 17-19 with my 1997 215 HP on the highway, and maybe 2 mpg more after advancing timing--driving solo at 70 mph. My 2004 with Smarty to add timing (or the TST box) is a couple mpg below that, but the truck weighs about 1100 lb. more, plus added "stuff" I usually carry. People "remember" 22-25 mpg from First Gen Rams, but my son's 1990 regular cab 2WD, about the best you could get for mpg with the automatic, gets a best of 19.

So far I am very impressed with the mileage of the 13's Driving a 10 mile loop easy,I can get the overhead up to 20mpg on the overhead,Even if it is off by 10% that's impressive

Not a delete supporter in the house? :)

I agree with much of what is said above, but after a woman in a Toyota with bald tires spun across 5 lanes and creamed my 3 month old truck it negated most of the arguments about warranty for me. Plus with it now being a wrecked truck a few modifications seemed much less onerous.

Even prior to the truck getting hit I had serious reservations about buying it/keeping it. My previous trucks ( 1 Ford, 1 Dmax) had both outperformed this slug in fuel economy, pulling, and general enjoyment. Something about the way this truck is tuned from the factory makes it feel heavy, slow and laggy.

After having the big D done I can honestly say that this truck now excels in all areas where it was previously weak. Fuel economy alone is not the reason, but it has bumped it a little. (1 mpg or so) It now spools up quickly, accelerates and sounds like a diesel should, not like a 90 year old asthmatic breathing through a straw. I went from seriously considering trading it to loving it. It is especially better when attached to a large load. The towing tune makes pulling much more enjoyable.
