Bit the bullet and ordered Double R Diesel full tuning package for my MM3. I originally had emissions compliant tuning from another company and had some issues, was never really happy and if never really even felt all that different from stock.

After dumping all that money out the drain here I am at 6k miles and tearing my truck apart .

- How difficult is it to remove the exhaust after the turbo?
- I ordered a 4” delete pipe that eliminates the cat and DPF. Any special tools or techniques?
- About how long should it take on my back in my garage with hand tools and beer?

I’m very mechanical with a plethora of tools, I just want some advice from you pro’s out there in Cummins land as this is the first diesel mod for me.

Truck is a 2018 2500 crew cab AUTO.

THANK YOU GUYS IN ADVANCE.

Your working with a brand new exhaust so you should have no problems. The only thing I can offer is take care to seal the wiring harness connectors you disconnect and make sure they are secured so as not to get burned by the exhaust or otherwise damaged. Just in case the day comes you need to return it to stock.

Please post up your thoughts when you get some miles under your belt. I have not yet deleted but am 99% sure I will be going with Double R as well.

Yes, exhaust is basically brand new. I will definitely post up what I think of the tuning. I hear nothing but good from Double R Diesel.

I can't speak for your truck! But on my 2008, this took about 4 hours to do the delete on a rack. Why? You need to remove the sensors for the exhaust tie them off and protect them from the elements and hot exhaust temps. We than had to loosen the transmission support bracket, if I remember correctly to move the exhaust pipe out of this area. We drop the rear spare and had to move this over to clear the exhaust pipe. It is very difficult to access the bolts at the rear of the turbo to the exhaust pipe and this took some time in getting the clamp and bolts align correctly to secure the exhaust pipe to the turbo.

You have a lot more to remove so, plan on a very long day to do this and maybe into the next day also. Good luck!

I’m not doing 5”, so the factory down pipe stays, and I’m keeping the factory rear section of the pipe, basically it connects to wherever there is a 3bolt flange.

This is what I bought.

it probably wouldnt hurt to spray some pb blaster on the bolts for the exhaust just to help loosen them. Yes you only have 6k miles but that's still a lot of heating and cooling cycles on the hardware and road exposure so they could stiffen up.

if your pulling the down pipe i just used a sawzall so i didn't have to drop the cross member and welded the down pipe back together and sold it. Make sure that you install the tuning first before you start pulling parts that way if you have an issue you aren't dead in the water if you need to wait for a re tune or changes.

Other advice i can give is that Shibby engineering used to make dummy plug connectors for the sensors and plugs that are removed during deleting. I ordered some for 75$ back in 2014 and they have worked great and I have had any issues in them.

I would spray all the bolts the night before with WD40 or penetrating oil, then it has all night to sit and work its magic. Your truck is pretty new so you "shouldnt" have any real issues with stuck hardware but it only takes one to throw an easy job off the rails and severely increase time, cussing and consumption.

Just about all the guys that I know that have deleted have had to deal with a
Drone noise with a straight pipe , even with a muffler in it's traditional location . The best results I've seen is a 30" resonator mounted as far forward as possible . A guy I know has 2 - 30" resonators mounted with a 12" connection between them , no muffler . Very quiet , no drone .

Did you buy the exhaust through DRD? SS or alumunized?
No I did not purchase it through DRD, my wife bought it on amazon for Christmas (I would have purchased from Ray but cant be picky, was an awesome surprise from a non-car loving wife)

And yes it is Stainless Steel.
