delivery valves good or bad?

I have had Piers tell me that delivery valves will hurt milage. Right now I am getting 16 mpg average. I am already wanting more power bit taking milage down more would be bad. Does anyone know how much power some delivery valves would add? What about with some 370 injectors? What would this do to my milage? I still can't beat my friends Trans Am. BTW he runs a 14. 9 1/4 mi. I have read a few peoples sigs. and think that this might put me pretty close. Thanks a bunch!!

I never checked my mileage after the delivery valves, I was too busy LOVING IT!!!!



Get the delivery valves and the 370's, I think you will be close to taking your buddy.



Drive normal and the mileage will be very close. You will love the go!

I have noticed that when I "pour the coals

to it" alot the mileage does go down

slightly. However, some of that may be

due to the fact that I ALSO had the

fuel flow increased over what it was

prior to the install of the delivery

valves. The throttle response seems

much smoother with the hi-flow delivery

valves. I think you should get them

AND the 370's!!!

I havnt heard anything about needing delivery valves on a 215 pump. My 370s do real good with the stock pump, is there a big advantage to doing this? I knew it would help on the non 215 motors. Always ready to learn.

Our 215 pumps have a 181 delivery valve and the largest are 191.

There are a few custom ones for sale as well. Laser cut jobbies from Mitchell.

181's are good for our mods and delivery lotsa fuel.

Speaking of delivery valves: Does anyone know what size the valves are on the 160/400 pumps? Does switching to larger ones, say from a 215/440 motor, help with the mild stumble just off idle 900-1100 Rpm’s?

The smaller pumps run 131 delivery valves, where as the 215's run 181's like Don said. You'll get a little more with 191's for the 215's but the smaller pumps really benefit from the larger delivery valves.

Ok help me out with this one guys, cuz I want to get this too.



Think about the water pressure at your home, with a garden hose connected to a faucet with a nozzle on the end.

-- With the plate we are changing the fuel pressure at various engine speed??? ( This is a question )

-- Larger injectors is like opening the nozzle more and changing the spray pattern.

-- Delivery valves is like turning the faucet valve open more.



My guess ( completely making this up, so you experts will correct me and I get the right answer ) is at low RPM's the small delivery valves are too much restriction, the pump pressure is not enough to over come the restriction at that RPM versus how fast the larger injectors allowed the fuel to exit the line, creating temporary drop in fuel delivery, hence the stumble.



At higher RPM's the pump pressure can over come the restriction and the problem goes away. Larger delivery valves remove the restriction.

the rate of fuel through the P7100 pump.

The stock "180" H. P. pump flows at

approximately 170-180cc's per 1000

strokes at full rack. Mine is WAAAY

over that.



To do this you will have to have a

certified pump shop take the pump

off and recalibrate your pump. If

they do this you can also install

the high flow delivery valves at

that time.

The delivery valves will help the low end stumble a little, but I've noticed that my major stumble comes from the 370's. I'm going to experiment with different washer sizes to see if that helps any. The power increase is real nice going from 131's to 191's. You can feel a significant increase (seat of the pants), wish I would have had a chance to dyno before and after. These smaller pumps seem to run much rougher and my truck also has a very agressive popping at high rpm. I found two other people who have the smaller pumps but are asking for real heavy fueling. Their trucks also have this agressive popping. So I finally accepted the fact that the plungers are to small and the pump simply will not produce much more than 400hp.

You and I have similar truck mods. I don't get any popping at high rpms. I have the 191 delivery valves. I went with the DD III's over the 370's. I am very happy with the decision.



They idle smoother than my Bosch 215's did. You use the same thickness washer and the same length nozzle as the OE injector. I think? this goes a long way to help driveability



The DD III's make about the same HP as the 370's. They are about the same price too (w/ TDR discount) . They make tons of torque.



The flat spot or stumble has cleaned-up by about 60-70% over stock. A little more timing and it might be gone.



So far in my experience, Diesel Dynamics makes a real nice injector.



If you get frustrated with the 370's, give the DD III's a try.

I gotta agree with ya Hemi. The Diesel Dynamics stage 3 injectors are really nice. The HP levels are really close to the 370's as you stated. They are extrude honed and hand assembled.

I love mine... . the 370's are good too, but DD throws alot of 370 componenents out that dont meet their QC standards during assembly.



My idle improved as well.
