dell inspiron 4100 battery charging problem

replaced the battery, checked the power suppy voltage, etc. but the battery still will not charge with the laptop on or off. out of warrenty support at dell says i need a new motherboard. computer works fine. anybody know anything about these things. a new MB is about $125, but i am not sure that 1) that is the problem, and 2) i want to tear apart a perfectly good computer just so it will charge a battery!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200, same thing happened it stopped charging and running off ac power. Eventually it ran the batteries down and would not turn on, turned out the mb was fried and needed a new one. I found a company that repairs them due to Dell not making them anymore for $150 plus parts. A new mb for $125 sounds like a steal.
