Picked up another case of oil last night at Costco. Iam sitting on several gallons now, anybody know the shelf life of the oil. I'd hate to have any of it go bad due to age. I've been trying to pick up a case each time we go, at $42. 00 a case it's hard not to.

I also just bought a case at Costco, same price. If it makes you feel better Wallyworld had it for $47. 35. When I worked for Shell Oil Co many years ago there was never any talk of shelf life for oil. Some of the other guys on here may have heard something different.

In another related thread, various reliable sources stated that average oil shelf life, under decent storage conditions, is 5-7 years.

I too have about 2 1/2 cases of the latest and greatest Delo 400 Plus out in the garage - hope it holds up, since I've gone to 12 month/12K oil changes... ;) :D

The stuff will last a year and 15,000 miles if you put it in the engine. I think it should last 10 times that long in the bottle.

I recall reading that oil shelf life should be at least five years. Some have suggested that it may be even longer than that. However, some of the additives will likely have a low level of reactivity that may diminish their effectiveness over time. As new oils have more extensive additive packages they may have shorter shelf lives. Pure lube oil has an almost indefinate shelf life when stored in sealed containers.
