Anyone using the 400 synthetic? Are there significant wear rates between the two oils? Is the cost of the synthetic Delo 400 justified?

Thanks.

I'm using 5w-40 Delo syn for the first time this winter on my 2500 and plow tractor mainly for cold weather starts. Sounds much better on a cold start than 15-40, didn't cause any leaks like another syn brand can. I plan on 20k oil with 5k filter changes as recommended by my Chevron jobber. I have access to oil analysis equipment at work and have tested it twice in 8k, very little change in-between tests. Not much more to say about it. I paid a little less than $10/ga for it, others have reported paying much more.

Here's the website for it

In your cold climate I might be inclined to go ahead and spend the extra cash if the truck was keeper or going to be around for awile. If she/he is "trade-in soon" kinda deal maybe I would just run the dino Delo. Either way you get the API benefit and the oils are both top notch in their catagories. If you can score it for 10 clams a gallon... . I would do it for sure.

Some other brands of synthetics are nearly that much a quart!

10 bucks a gallon seems cheap, wish I could find it here in VT for that. Wouldn't even worry about extended drains for that money. Only thing I can find is Delvac 1 at $22. 00 a gallon. That's what I've been using. Would use the Delo instead if I could find it at that price.

Lhotca,

There should be a very significant difference in wear between the synthetic oil and the petrolium oil! If you can buy any synthetic Diesel oil, CH-4 for $10. 00 per gallon as Illflem stated, I would deffinately go for the synthetic!

I've decided to continue using the synthetic. The trucks a keeper and I am looking to get the most engine life out of it as possible short of leaving it parked in the garage. I've used Delo 400, but hadn't heard much about the synthetic 400.

I realized after I posted the question that there are a lot of variables that determine whether or not synthetic is worth the extra cost.

The synthetics seem much better for cold weather starts. That alone is worth the added cost.

Thanks for the input.
