There is no TBN number.

What do you think?

Excellent Results! All parameters look good, including wear, dirt (silicon), soot, etc. .

Keep on doing what you have been doing!

Looks better than mine do on the soot percentages!! :D

All kidding aside, those are great numbers.

Some labs charge extra bucks for a TBN number.

gmorrison,

Just curious who you work for. With that certification, you must be in the oil indusrty working for someone.

Thanks,

Ryan

PAYCHECK,

What type of driving have you done on this oil, long trips or shorter trips. I'm guessing your climate is rather cool also.

Regarding who I work for. http://www.avlube.com/

in Columbus, Ohio. As such I review hundreds of oil analysis results each week for equipment ranging from ATV's, service trucks through CAT D10 Dozers, 150 ton haulage units, etc.

My being here is part of my professional requirement and commitment as a CLS regarding educating, sharing knowledge, etc. Plus, of course, we own one. .

TBN can be done however we do not do it as a normal course in that the oils I deal with for the most part is a non-test. i. e. the TBN reserve is such that the used oil TBN is generally higher than most new oils. (Mobil Delvac 1300S, Mobil Delvac 1) And as with most CH-4 oils, TBN depletion is a thing of the past, especially with the reduction of diesel fuel sulphur levels which occurred.

I know it has been discussed as being of importance but frankly from a lube engineer's view it is not an important number today, as in years past it was indeed.

Thank you!

Thank you for the positive responses. Yes i live in a cold climate @ times,(Wyoming). I did apprx. 60% Towing on this oil pulling my 20' Featherlight horsey trailer, about 7500#. The tech here in town where i have the samples done at (cat) said the same as gmorrison, that the TBN was not as important as it used to be. They will do one but it would cost extra. I thought perhaps the Iron was too high? thanx again.

UH-OHHhhhh!

NOW ya done it - burst the one BIG bubble of the Amsoil fanatics!

:p :D

TBN readings has been their BIG playing card in claimed advantage of synthetics in general, and Amsoil in particular - and NOW *you* tell us it isn't of any great value with today's fuels, engines and oil analysis...

You COULD be burned at the stake for this... :--) :--) :D

Sled Puller - then ya musta MISSED a whole crapload of past threads concerning the "advantages" of synthetics - and Amsoil in particular where EXTENDED DRAIN INTERVALS and subsequent oil analysis is performed...

That ring any bells for ya?:p  :D

NOW, of course, if any Amsoil enthusiasts wanna step up and disavow the value/importance of TBN numbers in oil analysis, now would be a good time... :D

And for the record, I'm a staunch believer in synthetics myself - use it (Mobil 1) in 3 of my own vehicles - just not a believer in vastly extended drain intervals...

All in fun guys - don't let yer blood pressure get outta whack...

;):D

Out of the hundreds of discussions, I just don't remember any big fights over TBN, thats all.

I may have missed them, that is possible, I guess.

UMMmmm - no claim was made concerning "fights" - only that Amsoil fans placed GREAT value and importance on TBN numbers as "proof" of excellence and longevity of Amsoil in extended use - and MANY references to TBN readings were made in past debates on the subject supporting Amsoil in extended use - in fact, once other brand oils started popping up with low wear numbers in extended use, the TBN #'s became the last significant frontier for demonstrating the claimed superiority of Amsoil over other dino or synthetics in extended use - a pretty common question posed by Amsoil supporters when good non-Amsoil oil analysis #s were posted here was "yeah - but what was the TBN?"

Not a THING wrong with MY memory! :p ;) :D

HEY, I don't wanna get ANOTHER "Amsoil debate" started -so this is the end of this thread for me!

Oh, I'll be laughin when the search gets fixed, because once again, poor old cranky Gary is wrong!!!

Memory is first thing to go oldster!

All in fun hehheheh!:D
