Well folks, as some of you may already know from my previous posts, Mobil has relabeled Delvac 1 as Mobil 1 Truck & SUV. This is fantastic because it will be FINALLY widely available and prices should go down. It will be available at wal-marts and many other auto stores everywhere by spring. It's in some stores already.

If you go to www.mobil1.com and read up on truck/suv, you'll see that it's approved by cummins where CI-4 is required. Cool. This is cool for those of you that worry about warranty issues related to oil.

Its funny Cummins is approving mobil for warranty now. Less than two years ago, the company my dad works for lost 6 engines in their volvo over the road trucks. Volvo blamed Cummins, Cummins blamed Mobil. Mobil denied everything. The fight went back and forth for 6 months and resulted in the end with 9 trucks down and Volvo buying them back. If anyone would like to know more about this, Ask a Volvo dealer to explain the Watkins and Sheppard engine failures on their 6 month old trucks. The end ruling was Delvac was not providing enough lube during start up. Seemed to be a really pathetic pass the buck ordeal to all those involved.

Because of this, Watkins and Sheppard is now buying strictly Detroits for all new models. This has really cost them alot since they can only Detroits in the "other" brands, such as Freigtliner.

I'll stick to Rotella, or its equivalent. :)

love the oil wars, you might be interested in another story about mobile 1. however not in automotive, but aircraft. few years back there were quite a few engine failures using this oil. after that the faa demanded all engines running mobile 1 werte to be torn down , and overhauled before furthur flight. cost mobile a lot of money. mobile 1 was withdrawn for aircraft use. i use rotella 15-40, no problems in 297500 km.

I'll stick to my Delo 400 15/40 thats worked good for over 250K in this one and 1000's of hours on the farm tractors we run. Jake

Interesting story, however wrong oil. I'm talking about synthetic delvac1 5w40. It's superior to rotella T in every way possible aside from price. To assert rotella is better is a joke.

Anyway this is not intended to be a thread of stories about mobil oil.

Nope, this dog is just lifting its leg at the fence and walking away. I can see how heated this discussion can get if this goes any further. Thanks for the update on mobil's new badging.

Please provide a link to where it states this oil is approved by Cummins, maybe I missed it?

I found a quote "Meets diesel engine requirements of Cummins, Powerstroke, Duramax and Navistar where API CI-4 is required. "

FWIW - I think the Delvac 1 is a great oil and offers fantastic performance and protection. However from what I was able to find, to state it is approved by Cummins is incorrect. Rather it is approved for Cummins would be more accurate.

To some that only run Premium Blue because of the Cummins approval this may be a valid point. For most though it is probably moot.

Any idea what this is selling for at Wally Worlds?

Well cooker, while your statement is slightly nitpicky, you are correct, there is a fine distinction between approved and meets the requirements. I didn't realize I was speaking to a group of laywers :) . Warranty coverage is provided by cummins as long as you use a CI-4 oil that meets their requirements. Therefore in my eyes, its "approved", i. e. you wont have any warranty concerns.

Lightman, I agee my comment is pretty nitpicky. As I said the only reason I mentioned it as there are some people using Premium Blue because it has the blue "C" on the label and it approved by Cummins. The CI-4 spec is plenty good for the vast majority of us, myself included.

Not trying to start anything..... does Delvac have a Group III or Group IV classification?

FWIW, "If" I run Synthetics it would be Amsoil. No reason, just have had good luck with it. :) However in my current "cheap and broke" state, it is either Rosesmella or Delo... ... whatever is cheaper. :D

Sticking to my Valvoline 5W-40 Extreme Synthetic... .

On the label..... "Endorsed and Approved by Cummins"

Only $59 for 4 gallons at a oil distributor.....

(OH NO! Not ANOTHER oil approved by cummins!!!:p )

Prem blue extreme is only 59 a case because it's a group 3 petroleum based 'synthetic' . Apples and oranges comparing that to delvac 1. :) If you're going to run a group 3, you might as well use rotella T synthetic for $12/gal at wal-mart.
