I have had one in my truck for about a year and a half now. I live in a very sandy area and was always putting my truck in 4wd because of the sand and even then getting stuck on occasion. I worked too long as a govt. trapper to think getting stuck was fun so I had the Detroit installed. Guess what, I haven't been stuck in the sand, snow, mud ,or anything since installation, I have to remind myself it is in when in town and driving in heavy traffic. I have to take the tight turns from a stop slow in order to avoid the tearing up something sound. This means I can't jump out into traffic when there is a small opening and this will sometimes **** off other drivers behind me who don't understand. Backing up with a trailer has not been a problem but my longest trailer is a 16ft. four horse. I have not experienced the breaking loose of the wheels on snow packed roads that other have reported when letting off on the fuel but then I think the way some people drive they would break them loose in any wet condition. I would buy another one if I changed trucks.
I have not experienced adverse tire wear but I do rotate every oil change. Make certain to include your spare in the rotation and that it is the same height as the other four tires as the Detroit is unforgiving if the tires are not the same heighth. I am sure the science & sarcism posters will now answer and tear me up but that has been my honest experience with the one I own.
