I am a member of a search and rescue outfit, and we have a deuce we occasionally use. I've never had a chance to investigate it very much. The guy who normally drives it says the engine tag says "White/Volvo" on the side. Does anyone know what engines have been used in the deuces?

Not sure of the size but yes White sounds right they are call mulitfuel engines they will even run on creamy peanutbutter dog of a engine but should last a long time if taken care of .

Thanks for the link. I eventually found my way to another site that had more detailed engine info. It is a Continental engine that has been supplied by various manufacturers through the years.

From what I have read on the S. S site the White engines were throwing rods.

If I understand correctly, all of the 4 or 5 manufactures have to have engine parts the are all interchangeable.

I've run a few of em and they are pretty fun to drive. The ones I ran were Hurcules engines. They have a really ingenious head and fuel system though to run basically whatever you can pour in the tank. They are so loud and floored on the highway you might hit 60 :-laf. If you ever see any army guys running down the road in one I bet they are wearing earmuffs.

I hope yours has power steering!

You forgot to mention the fuel tanker in tow for long trips:{:{:{:{

the military is no texactly "Worried" about mileage, then again what do you think about when bullets are racing past your head:eek::eek:

It is either a LD 465 or LDT 465 depending on if it is a Turbo. The turbo was added to clean up some smoke and added a small amount of HP. Also the turbo version came with oil jets for cooling the piston. I will try to get the HP of each engine for you later. It is not very high, in fact a good 5. 9 will out torque it and has more HP. The LD engine is also rated for 3000rpm.

Thanks

the LDT 465's (6. 7L) we get at the shop I work at are rated at around 165hp by the engine data plate I'll see on them when they do have one.

I work at the CSMS Shop for the Georgia National Guard ;) my old duce would only rev to around 2600rpm and you could get 65 out of it going downhill seeing as it had an electronics shelter on the back. I have since traded that in for a hemmt wrecker with that DD 8V92

Yea, she's loud, and the turbo whistles so loud you can hear it long before you can see it. Definitely not a "stealth" truck:-laf No power steering, either, but I grew up driving pickups and mediums with "arm-strong" steering, so no biggie.
