Hello everyone. Need some help/suggestions. It apears my pyrometer guage has stopped working. I've noticed that it doesn't read the same temps it did before. This past weekend I towed my toyhauler, going about 70-75 and it read 300-400. This doesn't seem normal. The needle still moves but it just doesn't read right. Any ideas anyone. The gauges are probably less than a year old. Thanks everyone.

Did you check all the connections? Check and make sure the pyro is in the manifold nice and tight and that it hasn't come loose at all. I had a problem with mine a while ago and the pyro was pushed out a little bit and wasn't reading right.

Yes, I checked all the connections, but I will check the probe and see what is happening there. Anyone else have any other ideas? Does anyone know if when these guages go bad they just stop working or what usually happens, I know it's a wierd question. Thanks.

Check to make sure the 2 wires are not touching and that the back of the gage wires are isolated. My autometer would read very low with the wire touching the mount stub.

Had a problem with mine at the little bolts that connect the thermocouple with the gauge pigtail. I undid them, and re-tightened them, put some fresh shrink wrap on there... haven't had a problem since. My symptoms were a little bit different though... my needle was fluctuating wildly.

Here's a hint to tell whether the gauge or the thermocouple is jacked up... . Set your multi-meter to measure resistance. Unplug the gauge from the harness. Put one lead in one slot of the harness, and the other lead in the other one. I can't remember if it goes from infinity to some number or from some number to infinity. Either way, you should be able to tell as you accelerate that the numbers just keep climbing (or approaching infinity). If they don't, then it is most likely a problem with the thermocouple.

MCabrera,

did you get a resolutuion to your problem? Mine has started with similar symptoms. I was towing and noticed very high readings that did not make sense - 1600 degrees. Also, I frequently get temps of about 50 degrees.

No I haven't. I thought it started working, but it started acting up again. So I think I will try to work on it this weekend. I think the best way to approach this would be to basically uninstall it and put it back paying real close attention. Let me know what you do and what you run into. Thanks and good luck.

My autometer is fubar'd as well. It will show 1300-1400 very easily. After adding the juice I put the attitude probe where the autometer probe was and I have to try to hit 1200. Multi-meter was showing no resistance. I didn't try it with the engine to see if it made any difference, might have to try that. I just hope the attitude isn't reading low.

Freind of mine had a very similar problem, had to send his back TWICE, took 2 months to get it right. Havent had problems with mine (knock on wood)

I got my gauges from Geno's, so I gave them a call. A Tech. guy said to do what I already planned on doing, which is to undo all the connections, clean them up and reinstall. He said this isn't uncommon. I will let you guys know what happens.

Thanks fella's.

Same thing they told me. Worked like a champ. Mine was REALLY "acting a fool" before I cleaned up the connections.
