What is the word on Diablo Pucks? The dealer claims 60 HP and 120 Ft Lb of torque, I believe. True?

I'm getting one with a thirty day, money-back guarantee.....

I've a 5 speed '99 with a 2 speed auxillary towing a 14,000 Alfa and/or toting a camper while towing a boat..... will this do me as good as it sounds?

puck sucks!!!

Utah... . cancell your order for the puck. You won't like it!! Get an Edge EZ made right here in Ogden, Utah. Good product, good guys, good warranty. . Heber

As CUMMINTSTRKN says,

Don't get the phucking puck!... . Get the EZ or better yet, spend a little extra $$ for the Comp Box. You will not be disappointed!:D :D

OK..... I'm convinced..... now, where do I get an EZ Comp?. If it is a "plug and play"... can I get it delivered? I don't want to drive all the way to Ogden for one.....

wow, do I sense a little Prejudice here?

The puck works... ... . I seem to be the only one on the board that has one.

With just 275's and the Puck I cranked out 300 HP with my little ETH on the same dyno that DEZLPWR cranked out 285... with an EZ and DD2's... ... . so, be careful of "opinions on TDR"

DEZLPWR now has an Edge Comp, so he is no longer comparable.

So far all I have seen on here is opinion with regards to the Puck. I am the only one to have numbers to back things up.

On the dyno I established my baseline with , I cranked out 302 HP with the same configuration I had when I dyno-d against DEZLPWR and a few others in Tacoma. So, these two dyno's are comparable.

With DD3's I am at 360 HP.

If you are set on Edge... .

Do yourself a favor and make the drive, I am sure it would be worth it. Go meet the people @ Edge Products. They also have a dyno. I'm jealous of all the people that live "close" to the vendors many of us depend upon.

oh, and another thing... the Puck is now available with a Boost Module.

The EZ, Puck, and VA all have to abide by the "electronic pump limit" in the VP44 so they all will put out basicly the same power increase... ... 60 HP @1900... . and then it falls off to 20-40 HP as you approach 2700 RPM... after that you are running close to factory fueling. this is with a stock truck... add injectors into the equation and all bets are off.

all three are "mild" fueling enhancements, but they will raise EGT if you do not raise boost pressure... . with my 275's and Puck I could hit 1100F with 35 PSI of boost

Now with the DD3's I can hit 1300F with 35 PSI of boost.

Anything over 35 PSI on a stock turbo is overkill, and all you are making is heat.

I did a little experiment when on the dyno last time. I installed a TC in my intake horn... . at idle it read 75F... . during the dyno run under full boost it read 91F..... so, basicly if I want higher boost numbers I will need a larger turbo.

Hey, wait a minute...Let me set the record straight!

My 285 hp w/DDII's and the EZ was with a slipping clutch and/or tires. (most likely clutch)My dyno graph that time looked like an EKG! (very jagged vs. smooth like it should be)Those issues have since been rectified... .

Diesel Freak,

How is it that by replacing the EZ with the Comp Box, I gained 127rwhp over the EZ & DDII's?? Obviously I was slipping my clutch on that 285hp dyno run...

So basicly the only thing you changed was the EZ for a Comp..... sounds like the EZ might have been the problem. A Comp on 1/5 is basicly an EZ with the jumper set for 3PSI.

so, what exactly was the problem in Tacoma?

I recall one truck with Bully Dog II's a VA, and a DTT transmission... he put down the same as you.

the next highest truck over me was a n auto with a DTT transmission, and JUST a COMP... ... he was at 325... ... .

The only thing I have against this thread is the lack of data backing up the bashing of the Puck... ... if it is a POS please tell me why it is a POS... ...

Does The Puck Stop here!

My opinion I wouldn't want the puck. I have had a couple of friends that has had nothing but problems with it. :--)

Sorry Diesel Freak, I'm just letting everybody know what I've seen and heard.

It was my clutch, I am almost certain....

Comp box and Con OFE went in prior to my 412hp dyno run!:D The only thing negative about the puck has come directly from you Diesel Freak! I have had ZERO problems with my EZ or my Comp Box. (knock on wood) I had other issues obviously. (ie: clutch slipping... )There are hundreds if not thousands of Edge boxes being used by members on the TDR with little or no known problems. You are the only one on the TDR that I know of that has the Puck and you DID have problems with it a while ago. 1 for 1 is kinda bad ain't it, eh? I think people just want to stick with what has been proven to work and be reliable, and Edge is IMHO, the way to go... . :D

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion... . ;)

Diablo Puck

:D ... I got the message!!! I canceled the Diablo Power Puck... . I am now trying to buy an EZ Comp from US Diesel Parts in Missoula, Montana... . I will contact them tomorrow on their 800 number and order it... ... I respect the opinions of all and realize that not all are as well thought out as are others... however... . the weight of the pros for EZ as compared to the pros for Diablo (plus a cost cut of $125. . ;) ) has convinced me that the EZ Comp is the way to go. Figuring the savings, I have paid for my TDR subscription nearly four times... . Oo.

Problems I had.

1. was setting the usual 1693 code..... just got tired of seeing the check engine light so I sent it back

2. the "new" unit I recieved did not affect fueling one bit, so I sent it back (it was not programmed correctly)

3. The final unit... the one I have now works perfectly..... all problems have been addressed by Diablo free of charge..... even after the warantee expired.

Puck Works

Guys, there were very little problems wit hthe Pucks and they come with a LIFETIME warrantee.

You would have been very happy with the Puck. I have sold very many and I have had 1 return ever. I really mean that. ONE return.

They have a real good track record. They sell a huge amount and of course that means they will have trouble from time to time. They all do.

There are a few on here that bash anything that isn't their "buddies" product. It's real sad.

For the record, the order was not with me, so it's not about me loosing a sale.

Bob

Diesel Freak,

Your truck is "on steroids" and puts out more HP than normal Eth's, so your HP figures are the exception not the norm!:D :D

hehe, my truck is not on "roids" or any drugs for that matter. . only cranked out 233 HP with just the 275's... but with the ammount of smoke I have I could use some N2O.

Happy with the Puck

I've had mine on for over a year and well over 35,000 miles with no problems at all, no codes, no anything . I dont have dyno #s or drag test results , just every day driving with and without loads. My 01 runs great and I recommend it to anyone that will listen . I dont work for the company and paid full price for it,and Bob Riley never remembers me when I see him at local events so its not like we are best pals, but his product does what it advertises in my case.

Utah Willie,

There is a lot of good information on this forum and a lot of folks that fall in love with the each product that they install on their truck. I like to try as many products and combinations as possible and have came to the conclusion that there is may not be a "best" timing box for all CTD's or levels of bombing. I have a Puck that is programed to Blue Chip Diesel spec's and it is the best that I've found for my present setup. It may or may not the best for you. The Edge EZ had a fair amount of problems early on but seems to be the present favorite of those that post here. I haven't tried their Comp box but do recommend that you speak with Diesel Dynamics about their rebadged Edge products built to DD's spec's. DD understands the Cummins ISB and how to test aftermarket products. Also call Chip at Blue Chip, he pioneered the fueling box and has tested several boxes He may recommend a different brand for different a application such a an ETH or your ETC engine. He sold more then one brand the last that I checked. Some companies can't even tell you how much their product advances timing and timing is very important as you add further mod's such as injectors, large turbo housings, tow heavy loads and (especially)use propane. I'll still try new products as they become available but I've had no problem with my Blue Chip/Diablo Puck and I know that Chip will provide great service and updates.

If the Puck or EZ will be your only engine modification, you will be happy with either of them or several other brand of boxes too. Sorry for the rant but JMHO and hope this helps. :) :)
