Using the key flash method I get a 12 (battery disconnected from pcm in last 50 key on cycles) but my battery hasnt ever been disconnected as far as I know for 4 years at least, and a 32 which is not defined on the list of codes posted by illflem by followed by a 55. Anybody have an idea what's wrong or where to start?

The reason 32 isn't there is because it's for a gasser.

32=EGR solenoid circuit failure (or, in CA, air/fuel ratio change not detected during diagnostic.

Sure you read the numbers right? It's easy to mess up.

Is there something wrong with your truck that needs diagnosing?

Could just be a PCM glitch.

Illflem,California 97's have EGR,the code can be legit it does use an egr solenoid to activate the egr vacuum signal when requested by the PCM.

egr code...

Well that code (32) sorta makes sense now, This truck was egr equipped, but I have non egr manifolds on it. (all the egr wiring/vaccum tubes/are intact they're just not hooked up to anything, I didnt think the PCM would be able to tell theres no egr anymore...

Thanks for the correction Bob. Fortunately I've never worked on a EGRed rig. I'll add 32 to the list. I noticed code 68 is also for the EGR. Here's the list again, I copied it from a post here and can't vouch for it's validity though. 32 isn't in my manual, and has different definitions in each of these different sites

If you go by the OBD II codes by using the key off/on method you will have to use only the last two digits the other three are explained here http://www.obdii.com/dtcanatomy.html

11 = no crank reference signal detected during engine cranking

12 = no codes. Problem with the battery connection. direct battery input to the PCM disconnected within the last 50 ignition key-on cycles.

15** = no vehicle speed sensor signal. No VSS signal detected by the PCM during driving conditions.

23** = intake air temp sensor voltage high or low. intake manifold air temp sensor circuit signals above or below the acceptable voltage.

24** = (TPS) voltage too high or low. Test throttle position sensor. 32 = EGR solenoid circuit failure (or, in CA, air/fuel ratio change not detected during diagnostic.

33 = air conditioner clutch relay circuit. an open or shorted condition detected in the air conditioning clutch relay circuit.

34 = open or shortened condition detected in the speed control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits.

37** = (TCC) solenoid circuit open or shortened

37** = trans temp sensor voltage too above or below acceptable voltage values

41** = problem with the charging system. When voltage from ASD relay is below 11. 75-volts.

42 = ASD control circuit indicates an open or shorted circuit condition.

44 = battery temp sensor volts malfunction. problem with bat temp voltage circuit in the PCM

45 = trans overdrive solenoid circuit malfunction.

46** = charging system voltage too high.

47** = charging system voltage too low. bat volts sense input below target charging voltage during engine operation and no significant change in voltage detected during active test of alternator output.

53 = internal PCM failure detected.

55 = COMPLETION OF FAULT CODE DISPLAY ON CHECK ENGINE LAMP. THIS IS THE END OF MESSAGE CODE.

63 = controller failure. EEPROM write denied. check the PCM.

68** = PCM not active or a fault condition to the EGR sensors and/or EGR solenoid

** = check engine light will come on with engine running if this code is thrown
