Burned-oil smell...

My first experience with the local dealer

Can anybody help me find the list of Diagnostic Trouble Code meanings for a 2003? I've found them in my Jeep service manual, but the table isn't there (in Chapter 25) in the Dodge service manual, and the index doesn't help. Anybody know the secret page number, or another source for a listing of the codes?

I've got a P2121 with the MIL illuminated. I was minding my own business, cruising down the Interstate at about 75 MPH when the engine defueled all the way to idle. I pulled over on the shoulder, and it sat there idling nicely (with the MIL lit). I could put it in gear and start rolling, but it wouldn't fuel beyond idle. I shut it off and then restarted, and it runs fine, albeit with the MIL illuminated, and the DTC P2121 set as both current and pending.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Thanks for the quick reply. That link only had codes up through P1899. Using that as a starting point, I surfed off through Dave Fritz's web page, and eventually to "The OBD II Home Page" where it says only 0 or 1 can be the first digit  so I'm still stumped.

On the bright side, the MIL was off on the way to work today, but that still doesn't eliminate the need to find out what happened. :(

One of the other guys had a similar problem with his 2003 and found it was condensation in the TPS. Cummins apparently knows about the problem. Dealer replaced the TPS and resolved the problem. Worth a try.

P2121 is "APP volts do not agree with idle validation signal"

Sounds like one of the idle validation switches showed closed while you were running down the road. ECM says that can't be, and shut the fuel off.

Is your APP on the engine or under the battery? Two different procedures to check, depending on which one you have.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Looks like I have some new homework assignments for study in the service manual.

sag2: Is there an accessible resource to look up the 2003 DTCs?

Casey: (OT) I got my SuperGlide hitch installed last Monday, and my Rhino-Lining done Thursday. I love the clean bed with the hitch removed, and the color-matched Rhino-Lining looks great! I'll post a picture when I get a chance, and find the right thread.

Mgonske, I have the Powertrain Diagnostic Service Manual. I did not look elsewhere since I have the manual.

mgonske,

Do you actually have an Edge Ez on your 2003? If so I asume that it is a preproduction unit, as they aren't out yet. Some details please, power numbers ect.

I just ordered the 4 (powertrain, chassis, trans, & body) diagnostic manuals. Not bad--$59 for all four.

Mopar_Mudder: The EZ I have is one of the first four Diesel Power Products got from Edge. It was initially reported to be good for 65 HP, but when he shipped it, Dave said it was 90 HP. There were no instructions available for it yet, and I haven't had a chance to call Edge yet to find out how to set the jumpers. I took it out when I took the truck in for its initial scheduled maintenance, and I was hating the doggy performance until I put it back. I just found out Cummins is offering free dyno tests in Orlando, so hopefully next month I'll get an objective measure of the performance. PS: Check your local phone book--that's my family up there :)

Look forward to seeing some number on the power when you get it dyno'd. How is the stock clutch holding up to it, pulled anything yet?

A Gonske are you  so are you related to Gerad (spelling?) then, I went to school with him, he is a bit of a motor head like myself :p

Folks, I can confirm that they are having some trouble with the TPS's. They have come out with a new design to fix it, if yours happens to be the problem, make sure to go to dodge to get it fixed. Dumb design on the wires, moisture enters, trouble begins.
