Need some Professional advise! Putting the getrag back together and instead of doing all the measuring and subtracting to get your shim pack dimensions, has anyone just used a dial indicatoR with a magnetic base instead? This is what we did for the counter shaft, still have to do the input shaft tomorrow. We stood the transmission on end, then set up the dial indicator (also used for checking runouts) on the top. Then sticking a pry bar through the PTO cover and prying up on the counter shaft assembly, thus coming to . 006 preload by adding necessary shims. Does this seem feasible, has anyone else done it this way?
