Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Did 2 Killer Dowel Pins. Now question?

I used the jig twice. Last night, on my 99, and this morning on my dad's 96. I noticed that I had to drill much further on my 99. The case on the 96 appeared to be thinner. Does this mean that I have the new and improved gear case???

From what I can see the cases are the same thickness in the side area that you would be drilling into. The new and improved case cover has added more aluminum around the dowel pin area so that if it comes loose it cannot come out far enough to fall out into the gears.
