Did anyone see the new GMC on TV??

I saw a car show last weekend on a new GMC truck that just came out with(if i can remember correctly) 440hp and 605 torque stock!! Then they show the truck towing a crewcab Ford in the back down a highway at full speed. I think the guy said it can also tow 8 tons right out of the box. I think the show might of been Car and Driver but not sure.

Rednut, its 340hp with 455tq this is right off the Chevy web site. Its the new 8. 1 liter 496CID motor. Regards Pete

That is not a prototype but actually in production. If it is 340 not 440hp I apologize for misinformation. I know it was a GMC response to Chevys lagging diesel sales .

Yeah, I seen the program, with host Jim Scouten. They talked also about the Duramax and its 300hp and 520tq. Both motors are going to be available in Chevy and GMC. Pete

to forget the orders on those Dodge CTD's
and just order a new Chevy instead!!

Yeah, both are going to be..... but when? I oughta go bug the Chevy dealer again. I just wanna see their faces when they ask if I want to trade my truck in on a Chevy..... and I repeat my fathers words of years back, "What? Trade a Dodge in on a Chevy?"

BTW, last month when I visited, they honestly told me that had not even seen the Duramax equipped Silverado and even if they see one, they are still unsure of when they would have one to drive.

Went into my local Ford and Dodge dealer yesterday. Guy asked me if I was there to buy a Ford. I said
"sure, I'll take a F550 -- just as soon as you put my Cummins in it".

Same for the Chevy.

I was bustin' up by the time I got to the bottom of this article. Wow 4 valves per cylinder, Bosch injection, gear driven cam and water pump and holy new technology batman, oil cooled pistons. Sounds like they finally copied a few features from a real diesel, too bad they humped the dog and threw aluminum heads on it.

yup,watch that Dufymax site smoke in about a year. betcha we see a whinefest extraordinaire about blown head gaskets and irreparable heads( maybe injector pumps ,too, but those who live in glass houses... . ) however if that Allison automatic is what i think it will be, someone please figure out how to adapt it to a real motor!

Sorry to admit it, but I drove a durapuke with and allison in new 4 door dually 4x4 chevrolet (chevrolet, chevro-lett,
shove it home and let it set) and it was actually pretty quick. I unfortunantly compare it to be as fast or (hate to say it) faster that my 2000 cummins with the 275 injectors. the truck did only have 225's tires , not the 285's that my 2000 ram has, plus the chevy had 3. 73 gears according to the GM (great mistake) tech that brought the truck home for the night. (manufacturer truck, early build model). The engine was pretty quiet, as you could talk normally, and hear, while standing next to the front fender with the truck running. (the 2003 cummins is also supposed to be this quiet, about equal to the v-10 when running down the road,and beat the duramax numbers in hp and torque, and the 2003 ram is scheduled for the 6 speed allison. No BS, reliable source).
The chevy when I drove it, did about a 10 to 15 ft tire spin taking off from a light after doing a little brake torque to build up some boost before taking off, and it was a dually. BUT, I would not want any beer can material for cylinder heads on my truck.
My friend that brought the truck home told me that they have not had any problems with motors yet, with some test trucks with 150,000 miles, but they have had some problems with the allison.

There's a good article in the Dec. 2000 Motor Trend's Truck Trend Magazine comparing the Cummins, Powerjoke, and the Duralax. It's titled "Torque Wars" The Cummins rear wheel stock torque was the highest! But lowest in horsepower. Closing comments said "There's no question the Cummins is still king of grunt... . " " If torque is all you care about, we'd consider a Cummins under the hood of anything; however, if you want the total package, we think the 6. 6 liter turbo diesel makes the new GM heavy-dutys the stongest, most comfortable stump pullers around. " This was a pretty good comparison article.

What is a slap to the GM guys is the DuraMax only outdid the PSD by 5hp, but had less torque. The GMC BARELY outran the Ford. The Allison was the only thing that saved it from total embarassment.

I have 1987 Mercedes 560 SEL (gas) aluminum heads. At 133,000 miles it developed a leak because of the two dissimlar metals. Something that is quite common with these cars. It now has 186,000 miles and is still fine. My point is that it is a wonderful design for the German manufacturers but in time they will leak. I love the car and the engineering that has gone into it, as I love my Ram. The "Duracrap" will have the same problem and I will bet it will show up before 150,000 miles. My neighbor sells the chevy and say I better not get close to one or they will clean my plow. Bring on the bombing, lets have a pull. And, oh neighbor; don't call me until you duracrap has 400,000 miles on the record.

The engine is Izuzu as I remember, and the Allison auto is a 5 speed.

You know the porkstroker also has big numbers, but I am sure both of these engines produce power at the high rpm band, rather than the low end torque and HP you get from a large 6 cylinder.

Well it sounds like they might have a nice motor, what about warranty, is anyone at the shops going to know how to fix the durapuck when it starts swapping fluids????
