Some time ago I came across that the timing spec was changed. I think it called out for 14 degrees btc. My 95 calls out for 12. 5. I was wondering if they did actually revise it to 14 degrees btc.

I'm asking this because next weak I'm gonna take it in to have the timing checked. The mechanic didn't really wanna advance the timing beyond spec. But I would like it set between 14 and 15.

Revised timing

There was a revised timing spec for CPL 2022 and 2023 that I know of. 2022 was raised to 14 and 2023 was raised to13. 5. CPL is on engine data plate.

Timing specs have been all over the place. '94's had either 11. 5° or 12° depending on the transmission. They've steadily increased. Our '97 is listed at 13. 5°.

Your mechanic should have a chart of timing versus mm plunger lift for a variety of CPL's.

Mine (CPL 2175) was set @ 13 degrees from the factory. At the Texas Rally Dr. Joe Donnelly set mine to 15. 5 degrees. The engine now runs more smoothly, builds RPM faster, and mileage went from 19 to 20. 5 mpg. Ask redram what he thought of it when he drove it! :D
