Did dealer dup my Dad?

My father just had his d-max serviced at the dealership before a trip this week. He just called me and asked if running the ULSD required a supplement from the dealer. Everything I have seen says no, the dealer said to do it every time the oil is changed. His truck doesn't require ULSD, but he went ahead and got the additive. Am I correct in believing this is a profit adder at the dealer? Thanks for the input.

From what I've read, no additives are "required" but some are recommended by many sources, depending on type of service and use. It's a judgement call and apparently the dealer chose to have your dad use it. My dealer put a 3000 mile oil change sticker in my window. Oil changes every 3K is a profit item for the dealer, on our engines especially. So are most of the supplements they sell. If it makes you feel better, use it.

Yup every place that sells oil changes really just wants to get you in there so they can sell additives, noco treatment for the battery, top off your fluids, new wiper blades, air fresheners, etc. There is no labor cost associated with the extra products so they get a big profit.



You dont have to add anything unless it is stated by the maker of the truck, but if it gives you peace of mind then it is worth it. Still you can probably find the additive much cheaper somewhere else.
