Here is the condition of my starter contacts on my 01 after 49K

I do city driving but not much, mostly some freeway or 10 mile trips and such. I didn't think it would be bad right now but I went ahead and did it anyway... ...

These do not look all that bad. How long did the change take? Did you find the jog easy to do with standard tools? Where did you ge the new contacts from? Just one more "upgrade" to do that Dodge/Cummins should have done. Overall, can not complain too much about the engine or the truck (overall that is).

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. At 135,000 they didn't look to bad, the long one was about 1/2 gone and the other was about 1/3 gone. Its very easy to change them out, I used Larry B's kit and it took about 30-40 min. for the change. The hardest part is getting to the top starter bolt.

I got to the top starter bolt with a LOOONNNGGG Extention on a 10mm 12pt socket and universal joint from the top by the grille. lossened right up..... tightened it the same way... .

All in all about an hour... cleaned the starter a bit too.
