Mother's Day - What are you getting 'Mother'?

Fuel Price questions

It seems every internet forum I get on these days has everyone spelling the word "the" with the h and the e switched, i. e. "teh". Did I miss something or did a bunch of people not pay attention in school?

Teh heck you say :) I think it is a problem with watching the keys while typing instead of the screen. Then they do not catch it when they, of course, proof read it before sending. Also, if all the letters of a word are present in them, most people will not catch on that they have misspelled them. The mind does not catch it since most people on focus on parts of the word. Either way, it is still pretty funny to watch. I like hearing people pronounce words. The boss is unable to say specific. He pronounces it pacific. Co-worker cannot say fathom. He pronounces it phantom. :-laf

Too many people are doing it for it to just be a common mistake and the letters aren't even next to each other, so people aren't fat fingering the keyboard.

I am getting so used to MS Word auto-correcting "teh" to "the" that I probably don't even notice when I misspell it on a forum. Between calcualators, Excel, spell checkers, auto-correct, etc. , I am turning into an illiterate idiot. :)

Edit: You can't read my hand writing any more either.

Try this: :D

I think I just type faster than the computer can process, so the words get mixed up... That or activities from my younger days are catching up to me :-laf

its too much work and not enough sleep ;) working on teh road takes it right out of me :-laf , nah im just making excueses, i cant read or type

formula,

That's pretty cool. If I didn't slow down I could read it just fine. Only when I tried to read slowly I had a problem.

DHorton,

You need to get your boss and coworker together to discuss either a particular ghost, or the depth of the Pacific Ocean :-laf

i haven't ever been able to read my own handwriting. . if i take my time and print, then it is some what ledgeable, but if i rush, it's a mess. . i transpose letters and numbers all the time [the joy of dyslexia:rolleyes:] and i can't spell very well either... i can type about as fast as i can read [made it real fun doing the reading assignments in HS for english class:(], and if i am watching the keyboard or the screen, it ends up being the same speed and about the same level of errors. .

Wonder if anyone has done a study on this. The question comes to mind is that since the t and e are performed with the left hand and the h with the right hand, is the electrical impulse that is sent to the appropriate hand faster down the left side than the right? If so, then the mind is probably already reading forward to the next word and catching the mispell is not processing since the mind knows that all of the correct letters are present. I work on computers for a living and find myself mistyping the logout all the time. Most of the letters are on the right hand except for the g and t. Those are the letters I mix up within the other ones. Oh well, sounds like a good case to go to our Congress and get a grant to perform this study. Should be able to be done with a limited study group of, lets say 10 at a minimal cost of $10 million or so. Hmmm... . now where is that paperwork at.....

Most of these people are peckers (no pun intended). I see it even in people's signiture line where they would probably take more time to spell it correctly. I just thought everyone knew something I didn't.
