Yes it sux!

I've been looking at new and used VW TDI 5speed Golf and

Jettas for a few months. Found a magazine called

Volkswagen Driver,

a Euro magazine. They have "plug N play" chips like the vAD

SmartBox by van Aaken. The "stock" rating "across the Pond"

is 141 HP/234 Ft Lbs and increases to 163 HP/266 Ft Lbs! Not

bad for the 4 banger!

The TDI V6 goes from 154 HP/254 Ft lbs to 175 HP/301 Ft Lbs!!

And that is 301 Ft Lbs at 2200 RPM!! Way cool.

The torque peak for the 4 banger is at 2,200 RPM and HP peak

is at 4,300 RPM. :p

Those figures are from a chassis dyno and were taken at the

wheels!

if vw did import those to NA, they would sell very few 1. 8t motors. the diesel would whoop the 1. 8t and get 2x fuel economy. heck, even lowriding ricer boys could get into the diesel scene then. . then you would have domestic companies offering performance upgrades to the diesels.

It say something like the germans have all the good stuff.

I think most Americans don't like diesels thanks to the GM

car diesels of the early 80's (5. 7 Olds/gas diesel conversion).

If the price of gas goes up (WAY UP) that will turn things around

and the major automakers will start offering diesels because of

demand. We Americans have such cheap gas right now,

compared to the Europeans, that no one cares to fill up a V10

Excursion that gets 9 MPG!

Also the beurocrats in Kommiefornia keep tightening the NEUSE

on auto emmisions, and diesels will have a tough time making

the grade. :(
