Hello,

I am getting ready to take my truck in tomorrow morning to have the ECM updated, because I am tired of getting 15 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway.

I know people have had worse MPG problems in 600 engines. but having a 305/555 engine I have been hopeing to get at least 19 ~ 21 MPG (19 city 21 highway or better) (engine and truck are oem stock) (truck was built on 9/15/03 and I took delivery of it on 10/14/03)

I have tired different fuel stations, different driving style (light foot / lead foot) different fuel treatments (power service etc) nothing seems to make a difference.

I thought the cold winter in Michigan was causing the MPG problem but now that summer is here nothing has changed.

Yes I have changed Oil/ Fuel / Air filters according to service manual (every 7500 miles) I now have 15,500 on the truck.

so to get to the point... ... if you had a TSB applied and your MPG went up, did your power (seat of pants etc) go down or did it increase or stay the same after the TSB was applied

Sorry to ramable on; please feel free to reply with opinions, comments, or concerns.

well I had a two TSB's applied this morning. 004-03 and 004-04 and its too early tell by hand calc'ing it yet. but the OHC jumped up from 15. 5 to 20. 3! on the 38 mile trip from dealer to work. I hope it stays this way!

Also they did not use a DBRIII to update my truck they used a new scanning tool put out by STAR called "STAR SCAN" which is supposed be newer and better then the DBRIII and update parts of the ECM that only need updating... . vs. doing a complete re-flash of the entire ECM.

not sure if I believe them because I can tell the service writer did not know very much about diesels and the technician they had "does not ever speak to customers" so I dont know if he knew whats up or not... . I seen the technician and he was an older guy so maybe he does know whats up..... but the service writer didnt.

I wish mine would ever read 20. 3! I can get it to do it I am going downhill with a tailwind and reset the computer. Then this little grade in the road that you cannot even see makes the OHC go down to around 14 to 15 if I baby the throttle. I have over 13,000 miles on her. Good luck to your mileage. As soon as I find a good dealer here in Texas I will see about getting the TSB's done. I do not trust he dealership I bought it from. Had to make them change the oil 3 times to get it right.

APersondek ,Well that is interesting that they told you they used the star scan... ... ... . it is only used on 04 Durango,magnum,05 300 and maybe crossfire. All vehicles that are can bus only. They may go backwards in the future but not yet. The flashes can not be done selectively, what ever is in it you will get... ... ... all or nothing.

If you are looking for a very good dealer, I recommend Karl Klement in Decatur, Tx. You can talk to any of their technicians and go out into the shop. Over 80% of their sales is diesel trucks ( farm and ranch country) and they don't have a turn over in personnel. The service mgr. name is Eddy

I bought my first Cummins from them and I loved the treatment that I received from them. My Last two trucks were spur of the moment purchases from West Loop Dodge in Ft. Worth and Mike Brown Granbury. I have been thinking about taking it there but it is a decent little trip out there. The only thing that I have had done out there was when I had my 99. They replaced the exhaust manifold on it and gave me a rental to go back to work in Ft. Worth. By the time that I got to work they called and said that my truck was ready. Thank you, I will call them and talk to them and see when I can get my truck out there. I guess that sometimes you have to go out of your way for good service.
