I don't know if this is an obvious thing or not but if you bump the starter on the 24 valve trucks, but don't start it, leave the key in the run position the lift pump will prime the filter. Do this about 3 or 4 times and it will send all the air to the return line and back to the tank. Then you just start it up and away you go. No messing with filling the filter up.

Some people may not know about that little trick. Just an FYI

That's exactly what I did, but it took a bit longer than expected for some reason. I had to repeat the process over and over. It finally worked, but took a while. Other diesel manufacturers put a mechanical hand pump on the fuel filter housing so that you can pump it up quickly yourself. My friend had an 03 Duramax that had this and all we had to do is pump it until the fuel filled the filter. Maybe a minute or two. Some of the big diesels in commercial trucks have a hand primer also. Gets them started quickly. I guess we could use that kind of thing on our trucks. Oh, well. If that's the biggest complaint I have, then I guess I'm doing OK.

Ya I know what you mean. My Jeep has the same pump on it. Much bigger and easier to use than the old 12 valve one. But on my 24 valve it has always worked flawlessly. Maybe yours just likes the attention. :-laf
