Truck runs perfect until it gets to a half tank and then it acts like it is running out of fuel and just dies. Put in 5 gals. and prime it up and it runs perfect, what`s up :{ ?

Im thinking it is the check valve in the tank. I think if you really want to ask someone that knows drop a line to Highfinance97. He has some "IN TOWN" experiences that he could prob. help you more then I could.

first thing i would do is drop the tank and check for any problems with pickup tube (with a plastic tank the truck may have got high-centered on something ) and crushed or bent the tube or it may have just broke off half way up. hope this helps

The screen fell off the bottom of the pickup. Heard a story about this just last weekend, guy's truck quit, send out trailer, bring truck to garage, pull tank, oops! All they had to do was put in some fuel, would have saved BIG tow bill. How could you know? Good luck-

just like 6BT said there is a check valve in the bottom of the pick up, it might be that, Id put money on it.

it happend to me and also on my buddys truck after we put our FASS"s on

i took the check valve out and it fixed it.

Good luck,

Michael

I find mine to sputter and blow blue smoke when I get less then 1/2 tank of fuel and run up the RPM's, its sucking air somewhere in the pickup. From what I understand theres a tube that can crack or rot out over time and can cause this. One day im gonna have to pull the tank and see whats up.

When I had my fuel module out I noticed that the ends of the screws that hold the floating part to the top piece were awfully close to the plastic pick up hose. I would check to make sure those screws haven't chafed through the pick up line, while you have the module out to inspect the check valve, and reposition as necessary.

I would let it cough and sputter then see how much it takes to fill it. Your sending unit could be off. I know of a 2000 and a 1999 that similar situations have happened. I would think if it is 1/2 tank the check valve would be ok, but you could have a leak in the pickup line.

Besides what DDennett suggested maybe the fuel pickup hose has cracked or come off the plastic piece that fits into the siphon device. This point is about 5" from the tank bottom. It's not likely any hose has deteriorated or rotted since it's semi-flexible plastic, but certainly could have cracked or gotten a hole in it.
