What are engines selling for?

Smokin' 4runner

Sounds like a hoot!! I had an '84 as well and loved that truck. Not sure of the weight of a 4bt but it sure would be interesting to find out. Before any questions come up, I have no fabrication or technical knowledge regarding this set-up but I can dream a little. Maybe a TDi motor from a Defender 90 would be more suited as well as more costly. Either way it sounds cool.

I don't recall the exact numbers of the dimensions of the 4BT, but I think that it's WAY too big. I have an 88 p/u, and was thinking the same thing, but there's no way, I need a good 6 inches of length in the engine compartment.

Good luck, I would love to see you prove me wrong, it's a great idea!

Seems like the little Toyota Diesel from the pickup would be a bolt in swap. Probably would not be overwhelmingly powerful though.

I have seen diesel powered 4-runners in Africa, too bad they dont offer them here... (the african market 4-runners are built to last with no sissy stuff like CD players and sunroofs, they even have canvass tops on them from the factory

I think a MBZ 5 cyl turbo diesel motor would fit in there with a bit of shoe horning. I think they are around 31" long. I considered putting one in a Nissan 4x4 before I went with the MBZ wagon 4x4 project. I would have had to move the radiator forward and perhaps hide it with a grill guard/custom grill. The MBZ motor makes 120 hp stock and is very plentiful. Not too easy to get extra ponies from, though. At least that is what I have been told. These engines were made from 1979 to 1985, I think, or at least that is when they were available here.

My dad had a CTD put in a Suburban and I was talking to the guy who did the conversion and he said that I could get the 4 cyl. in to my Toyota truck but it would cost a lot. . Now that I think about it most things can be done when you have the money. I just bit the bullet and bought a new 2001 CTD.
