Can anybody tell me what the recommended additive for the fuel tank that I should use prior to putting my truck in storage for six months?

On my son's last deployment, he just disconnected the batteries, put them in my garage, and let it sit. I tended his batteries for him while he was gone. One year later, put the batteries in and it fired right up.

Diesel isn't like gasoline. I wouldn't hesitate to leave it with just plain diesel in the tank. Just fill it to the top of the filler neck to minimize any possible condensation, and disconnect the batteries as Dresslered and BSeyler mention.

In winter I only use my truck to plow driveway and behind the barn. I fill up late November and I still have 3/4 tank of fuel right now. The only additive I have in is some 2 cycle oil.

If you were in a humid location (where algae and other green stuff like to flourish), I *might* suggest a light application of biocide; but in your location, I wouldn't worry. Just ensure the filler cap is sound.

I have deployed twice since 2004. The first being for 17 months. I just park the truck with the tank full, inside and put a battery tender on the batteries. This will maintain a charge at the same time placing a cycling type of discharge on the batteries. The info on these can be found on the internet easily. I have yet to put anything in the fuel and have had no issues both times.

I think l would look into a biocide if it sits there is going to be fuel/water separation and that layer is where the NASTY things grow. That could be a disaster come time to start it up again. I use the Battery Tender on the TT bats and have never had any problems with them. But I use the TT at least 1 or 2 times a mo. but they are nice for storage
