Diesel and Ozone

We get a few of these, Does Diesel not contribute as it mentions gasoline only. I may have known this answer but age has changed some things :-laf

... HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY FOR MARICOPA COUNTY INCLUDING THE GREATER PHOENIX AREA FRIDAY...
THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY IN PHOENIX HAS ISSUED AN OZONE HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY FOR THE GREATER PHOENIX AREA FOR FRIDAY.
THIS MEANS THAT FORECAST WEATHER CONDITIONS COMBINED WITH EXISTING OZONE LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO RESULT IN LOCAL MAXIMUM 8-HOUR OZONE CONCENTRATIONS THAT POSE A HEALTH RISK. ADVERSE HEALTH EFFECTS INCREASE AS AIR QUALITY DETERIORATES.
OZONE IS AN AIR CONTAMINANT WHICH CAN CAUSE BREATHING DIFFICULTIES FOR CHILDREN AS WELL AS PERSONS WITH RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS. A DECREASE IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IS RECOMMENDED.
IF IT IS A REGULARLY SCHEDULED WORK DAY... YOU ARE URGED TO CAR POOL... TELECOMMUTE... OR USE MASS TRANSIT.
THE USE OF GASOLINE-POWERED EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE REDUCED OR DONE LATE IN THE DAY.

NOx is said to be a contributor to ozone under certain conditions and is the reason for the NOx converter on emission controlled diesel engines. I imagine the limit on gasoline powered equipment is because many off-highway small gasoline engines aren't equipped with emission controls (catalytic converters) i.e. lawn mowers, leaf blowers, power washers, etc.

Staying in the East Valley in the the winters, we know why the sunsets are the color they are!!!! Sometimes in the day, the sky to the West (Phoenix) is BROWN! Sounds like today it is going to be REALLY BROWN! Snoking

The red sky is from the fires burning in russia. At least that is what we are getting here in the pnw.
